yeah, I thought that sounded too good to be true.

Not that it matters much, I have my rig dialed in and no plans of changing anything anytime soon. (unless Bob mounts the MB2 in a small metal 1x12" config)

After 3 gigs with this bad boy, the mesa just sits around collecting dust.

According to the manual, you need to set the master volume at
3 'oclock and THEN set the gain. Just the opposite of every other amp I have. I too had bad sounds until I tried it GK's way. It sounds better.

From the manual"

"" Level and Master Volume settings:
Set the Master Volume to 3 o’clock. Turn the Input Volume knob (They mean the gain knob) up as you play to the desired output
level. If the clip light (pad button) flashes more than occasionally, press the -10db pad button in and
turn the Input Volume knob up. If it is still lighting often, try turning the volume down on your bass.""



Go back to GC and see if it sounds better; let us know.

could you *hear* the clipping, or was it just the light?

while the light does go off rather easily w/ my sadowsky, the tone is still pretty darn smooth and nice.

I agree. I was totally scared of that light as well till Joker told me to see if I can "hear" the clipping. All I could really hear is the awesome Sadowsky tone filling up my church sanctuary.

However, to be on the ultra-safe side, I used the pad button and the light disappeared.

Let me know how this works out for you. I'm thinking more and more that it'll be a necessity for me to send my amp in to have it fixed up.

What would I have to do? Just drop it off at a certified dealer?

I was comparing them in that photo, switching cabs and amps in every possible config to see what works best for what.

I love the sound of the walkabout, it has more EQ control and I can dial in any sound with it. It has been my main amp for the past 2 years. So, I like the sound, no doubt.

I was trying to get the GK to sound like the walkabout actually. Those settings on the GK mimic the sound of the walkabout when it is flat.

So, with that caviet, I would say the GK sounds quite a bit more burpy and punchy, which I would attribute more to headroom than anything else.

The Walkabout is more scooped sounding, and I like the overdrive a lot more, and it sounds more musical. I would attribute most of that to the tubes.

Having owned both a Walkabout and a few GKs I'd say that's an accurate comparison between the Walkabout and all the GK heads I've used. They're both excellent.

contact [email protected], he will issue a call tag and have the amp picked up. Once it is picked up we will send you a new one by two day delivery. you will be out of an amp for three or four days max.
