If we're going for accuracy here, how did you get his name right 1/2 the time then spell it out afterwards? :smug::D

C'mon now, cut a bass brother some slack! ;)

slombovia, maybe my post was too "technical" for some here, but I see too many contradictions being posted not to call it out. With the exception of quoting the 1001 Owner's Manual ( who reads all that useless technical mumbo-jumbo!), most of what I posted was just a recap of the contradicting information I found. Your "TECH HOUNDS" post seems like an unfair dig at a post which really wasn't all that technical.

Nah, not your post at all. Sall good. I said no fingers pointed. Sorry, I tried to put it so it wouldn't be misunderstood and taken negatively. Not a dig. I'm a TECH HOUND! ;-] - I just think it's funny and really it is the subjective stuff that matters. Some of the tech helps. We just get funny with it sometimes. - - - oh yeah, and it was good of you to try to clear some of the confusion.

Cool.

I hear ya about the tech stuff. At the end of the day, all I care about is that the MB2 works for me. It's light, it's tiny, it was well priced, and I like the sound of it.

Oh, and I've decided to take Mr. Gallien up on his offer and send mine back in. Sent out a request for that slip yesterday though haven't heard back yet from the rep. As soon as I get one of the modified ones I'll make sure to post about the differences.

I had my modded MB2 for a week, and am currently waiting for the RFI-fixed unit to come back to me. You will love the tone with EQ flat now. The bass tone is perfect and there is more mid presence, at a loud practice it really cut through the mix nicely, which it didnt' really before, even after plenty of knob tweaking. You WILL be pleased.. :)

Will GK put a sticker or something to determine
the upgrade..

This is a very good question. After doing a quick search as to when I purchased my MB2 I found out that I have essentially, one more day left to the return period.

I still haven't heard back from the GK rep yet about an exchange, and over the past weekend I was hit with the dreaded RFI again (I forgot the snap beads grrr - at least it was just a rehearsal).

As you can imagine, I'm debating whether I should just return mine and wait for the updated ones to hit stores, though it begs the question quoted above. How would I even tell the difference?

What would you guys do in my situation?

If your real concern is if GK will support you on your current amp, I'd say I've seen enough to say you have nothing to be concerned about, and save yourself the hassle of the return/repurchase. Also, I suggest you call them on the phone for quickest response.

Pick up the phone. They are very responsive. I sent my second unit back last Friday. I got my modded head (not the original but a NEW unit) with both the EQ fix and the RFI fix, back today. It is now perfect, no RFI, great tone. And by the way it looks exactly the same as the very first unit I received, so I think the only way you will know is by the serial number.

All that I want is to have piece of mind that I have an issue free amp that will last me for years to come - and can be forgotten amidst my other gear. My recent track record here actually belies the fact that I am NOT a a constantly G.A.S.ing gear-head. ;) In general once I find something that I like I stick with it. The prospect of cutting 15 lbs off of my gear with a comparable amp to my 700RB was just too good to pass up though.

My 700RB-I was always an unsung hero... it did its job flawlessly through all of the drops, dings, and drinks spilled on it and never asked for anything in return.

I want THAT, just as I mentioned 15 lbs. lighter. :smug:

hasn't bob said on here that they would handle all of this themselves. just contact brian and they would send you a new one and take your old one. i'd contact bob and see if that's the case. if not, i guess i might would return it... but the way bob has been, i'm sure they'll change it out for you.

I'm an impatient SOB is all, and I've never had any experience to call on the GK service because nothing has ever gone wrong. So to be honest, I was actually wondering what the most hassle free way to go would be. Sometimes I just need to hear from people: chill, everything will be alright you'll be taken care of.

It sounds like the consensus is that I should just hold tight and let GK do their thing; point taken. Thanks guys. :)

That answers my other question... originally it seemed that the unit would just be modded, and when RAG commented back to me that a NEW one would be sent out it seemed too good to be true.

:hyper:

From what I was told there will be a depression on the stop of the amp possibly with a defeat switch to adjust between the "voicings"

Dont take this as gospel though, I havent confirmed it yet.

P.S. I wouldnt call it an "upgrade" perhaps more so an "update"

Looking at the head i just got back with ALL the new mods (EQ and RFI), I am thinking the A02 in the middle of the serial number tells you the rev level. My original unit was RBxxxxA00xxxxxx, and this latest unit is RBxxxxA02xxxxxx. I wouldn't mind betting the one I had in the middle was A01....
RAG could confirm this.

And just for the sake of accuracy, are you sure you're accurate?:eyebrow:

RAG said earlier in this thread that there NO CHANGE IN THE LOW END, and you are saying the exact opposite. Well, which is it? For the sake of accuracy, I'm pretty confused.:hmm:

Here's what RAG had to say when replying to Vic:

I believe RAG makes it crystal clear that nothing was done to the low end, only the mids. Have you learned something new since these posts by RAQ? I apologize if there is something I'm missing, but what you are saying to be accurate seems to be far from it and only adding to an already confusing situation.:)

Here's a more detailed description he gave even earlier in the thread:

B String, you mention a change similar to changing the "string Bass" button on a 700/1001 from 5-string to 4 string. I have a 1001 and am very failure with this setting. I'd really like to know which way the MB2-500 is supposed to be voiced, but other than your call into GK I haven't heard anything about it. I don't believe RAQ has confirmed or denied this.

For the sake of accuracy here's what was said:

RAQ's description of the String Bass button is a bit vague and seems contrary to what you read in the GK 1001/700 users manual where it is described as "+11db@20Hz".

Mr. Gallien, care to comment on how the the MB2-500 is voiced relative to the String Bass settings on a 700/1001, and whether the String Bass button is a boost or cut? There seems to be some confusion here. If this stuff is proprietary and you can't comment I understand.

The string bass is not a boost but rather a delay in the low end roll off. The result is more level at 20 Hz (+11dB the manual is incorrect) but the 20Hz response is still rolling off rapidly. Again the mod to the MB2 is an adnustment to the Low mid and High mid response which has the effect of reducing the bass response.

Contact [email protected], he will arrange an exchange.
