YEAAHHH I'm in !! The 700 RB-II and NEO 410 arrived today. So I said "hi, would you mind entering this house so I can test-drive you for a while ?"
They said "yes"... And then the walls started shaking :-D
Pictures coming soon ! (you should see the baby in its SKB shallow 4U rack, protected by two black vent plates... Lovely !)

Yes, I'm happy :-)

Can I join?

My 2nd GK bass amp (had a 700RB, now I have this 1001 RB which is great). Have also had GK 4 X10 cab.

(sorry for lame quality iPhone pic :scowl:)

Having a bit of trouble getting my Thumb NT5 to play nicely with my GK rig. I've been predominantly using a Sterling 5 HH and she sounds beautiful.

My issue has been that digging in on the low b of the thumb gives me tube like distortion outta the amp. Settings are (in o'clock); Input vol - 10, contour 9, presence 12, all eq close to 12, boost 12, master - variable depending on room.

I've lowered the pickups on the bass, chucked a new battery in it. It now sounds quieter than the Sterling, yet seems to distort on the low b, where the sterling doesn't. Is it the inherent bassy overtones from the thumb, compared to the more middy sterling?

Any thoughts? I know that running vol at 9 and lowering boost further will help, but not sure why the louder signal bass isn't distorting on the b, but the lower output one is...?? I'd love to ideally have the signals from the basses as close to matched as possibly for quick swap overs....

Upon looking at pics of people's 1001s, it seems 9 oclock on the input volume is about where most people run it...perhaps raising the pickups on the thumb back up a tiny bit to match it to the sterling, and the running input at 9 instead of 10 should keep the low b clean, and running the master a touch higher to compensate.

Most other amps i've used have had a sweet spot of around 12 to 1 for preamp gain/volume...GK seems to allow more distortion as a tonal option in its pregain set up than other companies.

I do have it in, but i'll try without it. Reading up on the "gk growl" threads, it seems im just experiencing some of the boost effect, but only the low B on the warwick seems to be kicking it in with the setting i've been using... ill prob just back the input off a bit and maybe the boost a touch, and bump up the master :)

You could try turning your contour fully off and dropping your bass to 10-11 o'clock your boost to 9-10 o'clock and adjust volume with the master.

I just got another 1001RB-II and it absolutely rocks! I had one a few years ago and didn't need all the power/wanted something lighter, so I went to the GK MB2-500, then to Genz gear. Now I'm back with this amp and I am thoroughly impressed.

I used it yesterday in band practice through my LDS 212/6/1 and with the input volume around 1, EQ flat, boost all the way off, master up around 4 o'clock I got the loudest, clearest tone I've ever heard! Pants flapping, chest thumping, wall shaking bass heaven :D
I will use the boost more and bring the master volume down in the future but yesterday I was also testing the cab to see if something was buzzing and I didn't want to be confused by the distortion/harmonics of the boost feature. I should already have a club number, I'll find it.

But really, did you pick up the amp???
Yea I did, I kinda forgot to Subscribe to this thread and it got lost on me. But yes I got it and I love it, I've used it on a few gigs with both my Squier II PBass and a Washburn Taurus and it so sweet. Most of the gigs I play I dont even need to use the 4 ohm amp. (but i still do) The BLX 410 is very nice as well. Pics as soon as I get off my ass and go to the space.

Only problem I had with my 1001RB recently was power issue- amp would "turn off" during gigs. Turned out to be a hairline crack on the board which was fixed easily and for a fair price (Rick's Music World, Taunton MA). GK customer service was good, too bad the amp was a year beyond warranty. Great amp for the $$: light weight, cool re-tracking handle, castors. Love it
