Gamers, what are you playing these days?

Still haven't fixed the PS3, so I fired up Final Fantasy XII, much better than I remember it when I started and never bothered to finish several years ago. It's kind of odd. Literally holds your hand through how to do the most mundane of tasks then plops you out on your own where you can quite easily get the floor mopped up with your face.

So I bought Mass Effect a few days ago. Heard some good stuff about it and wanted to give it a go.

That game's incredible! It's like Baldurs Gate 3D in space! I really like the setting and worldbuilding Bioware usually does, and this game is no exception. Really really cool.

I have only played 2 and 3 but yeah, some of the best darn games i've ever put my hands on. must plays for anyone.

Yeah, I just graduated to mass effect 2, and it's... Different. More of a covershooter vibe than the first. It's actually an improvement over the combat mechanics of 1, though it takes some getting used to. The captivating story is still there, but it feels less 'roleplayey' if you catch my drift.

Still, I never thought minor cameo's from people I saved in the first game would go this far in making me care for the protagonist and immerse me. Also, the driving sections are gone, which is good because they were always the exact same and got on my nerves. It's been replaced with a planetscanning thing. Which is always the exact same and gets on my nerves. So. Yeah.

I don't know, I really like the game, maybe even more than the first, but somehow it feels more confined. Like you just go from mission to mission, on a rail. I know I can choose the order, and there are sidemissions, but somehow It doesn't feel as free. I think a lot of that has to do with thr game being streamlined so much. The first game had these problems too, but they weren't as apparent.

Meh, I still like it. Looking forward to three.

Edit: I guess it might be that the setting and such lend itself so well to sandboxgaming, that I wish this was one. When you build your crew, and walk around on your spaceship you feel like you can go anywhere and do anything, so I want to. I feel like Malcolm Reynolds on Serenity and I want to go on adventures.
The tradeoff would of course be a way less tight story, and perhaps less emotiobal involvement, but damn I'd love to see someone make that game. Like a skyrim or gta in space, with your own crew and spaceship to call home. Or a firefly mmorpg.

I finally got an xbox... seems I'm a little late though. I've never been much of a gamer.

Anyway, for my first two games I managed to get were Fallout: New Vegas and Bioshock: Infinite. Big mistake. Those games are impossible if you've never really played xbox before. I think I've given up on video games once-and-for-all.

Gave it one good hour...... Why play a game that'll beat the **** of you around every corner? After a while it becomes less of an experience and more of a chore.

It is very difficult and you do die a lot but that's the whole point. There are only certain ways to defeat specific enemies and the game teaches you how to defeat each one as you progress. Another reason being difficult adds to the game is the world map isn't very large, so the difficulty makes the game playable for a very long time. I found Skyrim to be the complete opposite. Very large map, lots of things to do but not difficult at all (still fun though). Crysis 3 was way to easy. someone mentioned dishonored.....that game was great but too short.
