Garry Tallent new bass

Okay, I'm sure some of you watched the final Jon Stewart show. If you did, you noticed Garry Tallent playing a bass that looks like a Dano long horn.

Well, just got done talking to Gary. Its a custom that he had built based on his years of playing Danelectro Longhorns. What I am happy and proud to say is that the neck on that came from the Dan Armstrong Modified Danelectro that he got from me not too long ago. To quote Garry about the new bass, "Its the Longhorn Perfected!"

Nice bass Garry. I can't wait to see it and play it in person.

thanks for the info! I was wondering, like a lot of us, what kind of bass it was. I could tell it was custom, and based on a longhorn. Looks like a single EMG pickup and an adjustable bridge. I do wonder how it sounds with those changes as I always assumed the lipstick pickup and wood bridge had a lot to do with the sound. I own a Jerry Jones longhorn (with the wood bridge) and it's a great bass but getting the intonation right can be tricky. I have to play with it in the studio and adjust it per song to get it as close as I can. But the sound is worth it for those songs that it fits. Is he using flat wounds on it, I wonder?

Gary Tallent's new bass was built in conjunction with Sean Paden & Steve Fazio of Southbound Custom;

Sean was in charge of the build, he brought me in to design & build the body with his & Gary's approval. He also handled assembly & set up of the instrument. Sean does some of the best fretwork I have ever seen.

The neck was a Dan Armstrong Danelectro piece that Gary already owned. Sean & Steve had previously restored this neck for Gary. Gary also provided the Bartolini pickup.

Steve Fazio did the beautiful finish work on this bass.

Southbound Custom's paint & finishing services are some of the best in the country. I am now using Southbound for all of Moonshine Custom Guitars paint & finishing.

That is one Coolio Dano-what-if-Fish bass. Hummmmm I wonder what I could cut up..........
