This was one of my favorite Thain photos. I wonder if this is your bass.
Yes, it is possible, do You know when this was taken? I have checked the serial number and it turns out this was build in 1973-74.....

I saw a live video of Heatwave on YT...they had two lead singers & they did the same with their bassist & guitarist.
Gary was a fixture with Heep from 71-72ish to just prior to he untimely death in 1975. That photo would be from their prime 73-74.
It is hard to tell from the picture but that bass doesn't look like it has the block inlays on the fret board that yours has.
A better view of that picture can be seen in this video at the 58sec mark.
It would be cool to find a photo of yours. Maybe it was his backup bass?

there are pix of Gary Thain with a white Jazz Bass he used, while recording the Sweet Freedom album in France,
but it has no block inlays. Those are the only photos I have ever seen with a white bass.
On all the other pics he used a stripped Fender Jazz , stripped Fender Precision Bass and a Gibson Thunderbird.
How could you get that bass?
