GAS article

I bought a Chapman Stick from the author many years ago, very nice guy, and someone just mentioned him on another thread. I thought I'd look him up and I came across this:
[Invalid or Expired Link Removed]

It made me think. Not that I own a lot of basses, but it made me think.

im safe

Your Main Axe (Valenti Jazz 4 being built I just cant do the 5 so Nino is going to sell my 5)
Fretless (Dean Edge)
Axe sounding very different than your main (Precision Bass and my Jazz with Flatwounds)
Backup to your main (Modded SX Jazz love this bass)
A collectable 60's or 70's instrument (No Plans on this at the moment..)

So I got 5 basses and its all I really need.. I think that article is dead on accurate..

I think the writer wasn't exactly accurate about the basses a working bassist needs to cover all situations and make everyone happy. Here's my list:

1. Precision
2. Jazz or PJ
3. 5 or 6 string
4. Fretless

Obviously there are people who have made a living and never played a Jazz or Precision. But they're the only bass types I've ever been specifically requested to use, and even top players who wouldn't be caught dead in public with them will keep one or two stashed in their house for sessions. I've had people ask me to bring a 5 or a fretless before, but for that they usually don't care what kind of bass it is. But I've been specifically asked if I had a Fender many times.

I'm feelin' good. Though I don't buy into his necessity for Fender's, but I'm not a hired gun and can play what I choose.

Your Main Axe (Schecter Studio5 - heavily modded)
Fretless (no interest)
Axe sounding very different than your main (Precision Bass)
Backup to your main (working on that, likely a Steinberger 5'r)
A collectable 60's or 70's instrument (no interest)

I find that I'm more apt to Gas over rig type gear then I am basses. But I'm starting to think I'm getting settled on rig gear also. :-0

Your Main Axe (Stingray 5)
Fretless (I Want a Fretless Jazz)
Axe sounding very different than your main (I want a Ric)
Backup to your main (Warwick Thumb BO)
A collectable instrument (my stingray 5, it's the 20th anniversary model)

plus i just want a J-Bass aswell for good measure

1. Your Main Axe - 97 MIA Jazz
2. Fretless - 98 MIM Jazz
3. Axe sounding very different than your main - Sting Signature Precision
4. Backup to your main - Jazz 24
5. A collectable 60's or 70's instrument - No interest in this, however, an 08 P may be my "investment." And then I'm done.
