GAS: As I see it.

I like to try stuff out and a lot of what I'm interested in isn't sold at local stores. It's usually old, it's usually different, and it's usually not very expensive. I'm not one to buy expensive basses & I don't figure I'll buy an expensive rig unless it's a Sunn300 or something like that down the road. For now, my SVT works well for me and I love it.

If it weren't for GAS I wouldn't have my Yamahas & that would be a drag. There have been basses and amps that I've loved and not loved but I've never gotten something and regretted it... Just sold it and moved on. Nothing wrong with that, I figure.

A great way to slow down or shut down GAS is to check out a great player who plays the same bass you do. It is a great reminder that it's the artist, not the instrument!

I was just checking out Mike Mondesir today, and he is enough to make me feel guilty about buying anything!:hiding::bassist::D

Funny, I probably feel less GAS now than ever. Knowing that I just can't afford much at moment has the ironic effect of giving me peace of mind.:D

I keep asking myself, will anyone but me notice a difference. If not, maybe it's not worth it. I have played my current bass (Yamaha BB605) for a long time. I have tried to make myself think I need a Sadowsky or Lakland or whatever, but when I have used them, people haven't even noticed a difference - some of them bass players and all really good musicians. If they don't notice or care, why am I wasting time and money on gear instead of trying to get better.

I'm not sure about my current combo amp. I may try something else, but again, not sure if anyone will notice. We'll see. I may end up going back to the little combo amp and extension I had a while ago.

For me it's been this way...

More Talkbass, More GAS

When I play more and stay off of the internet, I am content with what I have. Seeing the beautiful basses that other people have makes me want something different. It's like walking into a Godiva chocolate shop and not buying anything. While you're there, the smell of the chocolate is overpowering and you can't imagine not having any. But once you leave and the memory fades, it's not such a big deal. Then I'm happy with my Kit Kat. :)
