If you wish to see yet another snappy Smart car, that has also been discontinued, is the Roadster.

This little puppy gets 55mpg and has paddle shifters. The 100hp Brabus version is a scream to drive. It's not a lot of power, but for a car this size, it moves.

The car either has a retractable roof or panel roof. Tight on space. Cheap on insurance and gas.

Vaguely reminiscent of a Lotus, I like it. I want it. I would SO enjoy my commute in that...

I just filled up (topped off, really) the Mighty Metro, and calculated my mileage at 40.993. That was running the A/C some of the time, and was both city and hwy driving. I need to get an oil change and an alignment, and I can do better. Also need to remove the stuff that I have in the trunk. May consider removing the back seat as well for additional weight savings.

Since it's been of a tolerable temperature I have been commuting to work via bicycle. I have a very short commute, though, only 5 miles. Because it's so short I never really considered doing it for the gas savings, especially since I spent about $500 on my bike. With prices at $4.00 a gallon, though, I should be able to recover the price of the bike in gas and vehicle depreciation by the end of the summer.

A Welsh company called Kimber have the rights and tooling to build the Smart Roadster now - they're gearing up to resume production of it, and there was talk of re-releasing it as either a new Austin-Healey Sprite (although Nanjing, the Chinese company who bought MG Rover, own the rights to that name) or possibly as a new Triumph TR9. It's coming back though, one way or the other, and it'll be using a storied old British marque.

Europe as a whole is roughly the same size in land as the US. It's Americans own fault for basing their lives around cheap gas. I'm currently setting up my situation where I don't have to have a car. Americans should use Europeans as examples and beging changing their lifestyles.

I just came home from filling my Nissan's tank at $10.30/gallon. Needless to say, I don't drive much

The car has a 1.0 Liter, 3 cylinder, 64 hp motor. With four of us on board, it can easily cruise at 160 km/hr (100mph).

It's actually pretty peppy. It surprises everyone who test drives.

Gas here is now USD 6.89 a gallon for 95 octane. That Smart costs me $30 a week in gas.

If gas was cheaper (and cars! They're terribly expensive here), I would probably own a bigger/more powerful car with a 3+ liter engine...

I currently spend right around $50 a week going to and from work. That's based on this morning's fill-up at $3.64/gal. Took $9.01 to fill it.

I gassed up last night before my session at $1.27 CAN /litre. On the way home from the session (Three hours later) it was $1.39 CAN /litre. (ironically, if I drive over the border it works out to about $0.98/litre)

I filled up Sunday for $3.37/gal. Now it's Tuesday and it's up to $3.64. That's $.27/ gal over the course of a day and a half! I think it'll hit $4.00 by Friday at this rate...

That would be $8.72 / US Gallon. And the car prices in Finland compared to USA... Here the cars are about 2-2.5 times more expensive and also US salaries are bigger. And we get taxed heavily.

i sold my sports car (05 rsx) for my nifty (08 uber loaded xB) van......paid $4.03 this morning...... im on the road 3 days a week for work (sales)....my company now pays for all my gas!!! and oil changes!!! and tires!!!!! and brakes!!!!! and lunch!!!!!
