GASing for a G&L JB

I've never had a jazz before, but I've always loved the tone of a jazz. So for a while now I've been casually looking at jazz basses. Fender's recent jazz models haven't really done it for me, mostly because I'm not crazy about thin neck profiles. Then I ran across the JB and heard a couple of clips of these on YT and I thought it sounded fantastic. I totally wish the G&L dealers near me kept these in stock so I could try one!

Also, binding and blocks would put these things over the top.

I'd do it, considering how fantastic the instruments seem to be, but white binding would only look good with a rosewood board. White on maple looks terrible and just gets lost, IMO.

G&L should seriously consider adding blocks and binding as an option for JBs.

Not true. If you put the vintage tint gloss over the binding, you'd get cream binding (a la Marcus Miller) and that is quite hawt.

The JB is a killer bass. I had one in black with tort guard, rw fingerboard and matching HS. I regret selling it to this day. Verrry nice instrument. If your inclined to buy a jazz, you really cant go wrong with one of these.

Personally I think a baby blue with cream guard and maple board would be sweet.

Sounds great, like a Jazz Bass. :) The pickups are a little hotter, and the neck is sweet. Every bit as nice as a US Fender, and available used at a lower price than a Fender.

Wow, jasper. That's pretty much the EXACT bass I had in mind, minus some neck tint. It looks more or less like Tommy Shannon's old jazz.

I'm a huge Tommy Shannon fan. In fact, he's probably tied with Jack Bruce as my #1 reason for taking up bass. If I were to get one, that's likely the one I'd get.

Like I said man, different strokes for different folks. Me personally, I think cream binding on maple looks godawful.

But yeah, why'd you sell your JB? Sounds like it was badass.

That's a classy looking bass. I've had two of them and thought they were great. I wouldn't mind having one around for my very limited 4 string needs.

Neck profile is a big deal for me and this one is very comfortable for me. However YMMV. The neck profile is pretty close to a jazz bass. The width seems about the same, but maybe a just a bit deeper.

It would be much skinnier than a P-bass. If you're comfortable around a jazz neck, it will feel like home.

That sounds right up my alley. Don't get me wrong, I like my P-bass necks, but Jazz width is ideal for me. My perfect neck is 1 1/2" wide with a deep profile.

Maybe it's not as deep as I'd prefer, but it sounds a heck of a lot more comfortable than a typical Jazz neck.

These are fantastic. My JB is probably the most perfectly built and finished instrument I've owned, and the #8 neck with Plek-leveled frets is my absolute favorite neck. (So much so, in fact, that I'm getting ready to order the newly reissued LB-100 with a #8 neck to replace the Precision I sold last year.)

In essence, they're boutique quality J-basses, just heavier than most boutiques.
