could SOMEONE please explain what this is? is it like the Larry Graham Dance To The Music fuzz, or what? what are the best pedals that are not any larger than an MXR pedal that i can use to get the Gated Fuzz sound? i DID search.

and just for Spanky: :smug:

Gated fuzz pedal examples would be, Z.Vex Woolly Mammoth, Chunk Systems Brown Dog and Subdecay Flying Tomato, there are probably a few more but I don't know what else there is.
The gate acts like a noise gate but it also makes your notes a lot tighter and sharper sounding. I don't know the technicalities of it but that's what I could hear from my Woolly Mammoth.

Gated is also called short decay.
Tends to fizzle out if you hold your notes, but dead quiet when not playing.

Effector 13 makes a couple, the Ar-33 (only a volume control) the Rocket, and the TBD has a gate switch.

I have a Silver Crank, it sounds good in an over the top harsh fuzz sort of way, but won’t do creamy smooth.

If you are into long sustain then gated probably isn’t for you. But they do work nice for playing fast.

Also bear in mind that the Mammoth, Flying Tomato, and (I'd bet) the e13's achieve gated sounds by altering the fuzzes' bias. The Brown Dog, though, sounds like it has an actual noise gate built into the pedal. At least that's what it sounds like to me.

I just received my new Effector 13 AR33 yesterday, well Monday really but I was on tour so I only just got to use it a little yesterday. I'm going to try to post clips of it this week and give it a review. So far though I like it especially for $35.

I've found that my Boss NS-2 can tighten up my Big Muff pi very nicely with the gate set up high and minimum response time. Lets you pick and mix a little more :)

Damn, where were you a couple of weeks ago when I asked this question? I want to pick up a gate pedal to get a gated fuzz sound with my Little Big Muff. I don't suppose you have any sound clips of the Big Muff and NS-2 together?
