The ONLY thing I care about when working with other musicians is . . .

Unless the primary source and focus of your identity is your sexuality, (which in my opinion would be a tragic shame whether you are gay, straight, celibate, or neutered), sexual preference has nothing to do with music or any other career choice.
The only person who's perspective would matter in those cases is the person who is being discussed- while it may not happen big deal to you, it obviously could cause a great deal of stress for the football player, and even risk. Unfortunately, those bigots are in places of power in every career path. A man bringing his husband to a company picnic may result in him never getting a higher position; a Christian rock band with a gay member may never get signed to labels that promote that kind of music, etc. It's very often a factor that they need to consider- there's a reason why so many people stay closeted.
Unfortunately life is not, and has never been, stress-free or easy to negotiate no matter who you are.
Anyone who thinks that it can be made to be is out of touch with reality IMHO.
Putting yourself in the path of a train and then complaining that you got run over is silly.
......Sex = life, and as one school of philosophers point out, that by creating life you have also created a potential death, sex = death. It is THAT important. Without sex, all multi-celled animals would die out of existence......
Not when fighting for equality it isn't. Undue inequality can be changed. What if no one complained/protested about what happened to Rosa Parks?
I'm with mellowinman on this- sexual identity is a major part of everyone, even in ways most wouldn't realize. I've never heard anyone complain that we're shoving it in people's faces if my wife kisses me on the cheek in public. Gays often do hear that for the same thing.

This is flawed; to the best of my knowledge in the realm of mammals, male + male can not "create" a life, nor can female + female. It tales male + female to "create" a life. This is not to say that a gay couple can not be great parents because they can/are. But IMHO to impose philosophical concepts over biological fact is a little over the top.
I do not subscribe to blind generalizations. I deal with people one on one, not as groups. Either we get along or we don't; race, creed, color, sexual orientation does not determine if you are cool or uncool.
It's not flawed. It's a pretty decent chain of logic.
Maybe there's a reason, that isn't readily apparent, that its just part of the plan.
- People are saying sexuality isn't that important
- I'm pointing out how important it is
- How important it is doesn't change because you are inclined to share that big of a thing with someone of the same gender
When I join a musical group, they may be male, female, gay, or straight. Whichever of those they may be has no effect on the way I "connect" with them. I'm there to make music, not make an otherwise unrelated "connection." If we share common musical interests, it's likely to work, regardless of sex or sexual orientation. My point is that it seems like you're looking for something more than similar musical preferences. As I've said before, sexual preferences are irrelevant to me and I really don't care to have that issue enter into my interactions with people. My point isn't that I can't connect with straight musicians. That's not the case, actually. Most of my friends are musicians or musical in some respect. It's simply a matter of not knowing anyone who is gay and a musician, especially with those who share my musical taste. Those are the kind of connection I haven't been able to make yet, since my gay friends are usually into movies, reality shows, and bar-hopping or something else like that. Fun in its own right, but it can't sustain me for too long.
Anyway, I don't mean to complain, (OR make assumptions, pacojas) only see who's out there!I'm sure that if I WERE to move to Seattle proper I'd meet some people who are into it the way I am, but so far I have not.
And Pacojas, you disagree with my statements for some reason. Sorry if I offended your sensibilities, but it just sounds like you're trolling. Please make your point more clear if you're really trying to have a conversation with me.
Which plan is that? It's not flawed. It's a pretty decent chain of logic.

Making music devoid of sexuality and social relevance with people I can't connect with sounds like a personal hell to me.
Interesting question. But I guess it doesn't really matter to me if you're gay, straight, bi, black, white, Asian, Hispanic, Republican, Democratic...
It just matters to me if you like music!!!So don't feel lonely... everyone here has the love of music and bass in common!
