Profound bs aside, I listen to most anything I can get my hands on, but lately I have found an interest in some modern folk music. It isn't really funky, but it does attract some eclectic fans and musicians. Musical projects like "Andrew Jackson Jihad" and "Spoonboy" touch on social issues and gay equality, etc. While most of the music is acoustic folk with little to no bass in it, I find a lot of open minded musicians at the shows and online. If you aren't into folk so much, you can always go to some reggae shows if you can handle the weed. They are always open minded, free loving, chill dudes. But most of all, the best thing to do is never assume about sexual orientation. LGBT people can be found at the most unexpected places.
I am an 18 y/o college student from NJ, btw.
