Gay Musicians

I'm curious as to where you see openly gay men in the punk scene? been my experience you have a better chance of being a black man in a klan rally than an openly gay man in an Anti-Heros show. kinda off topic a bit but that caught me by suprise to see that atleast in the states Ive played in.

I cant explain why you may not find many gay musicians, honestly, with all that I can and trying not to be offensive, could it have something to do with attention and the lack of that a bassist and drummer may get?

I opened for a gay band last Friday, Their name was skate night, from new Orleans. At first I thought the bar was a gay bar, then I realized they were just there because the band preforming was gay. Found out when I heard some lyrics! they had a keyboard playe a singer and a synth type thing that did beats for them. Their music wasn't all that good sounding but the singer put on a great show.

To further derail this thread, do gays all of a sudden decide they like the same sex and same sex only? Are they straight but somehow really like ONE PARTICULAR person of the opposite sex, this would make much more sense to me than coming out 100% same sex only.

Let's trynot to get too politcally correct guys, it can get really annoying

Homosexuality

"Homosexuality
Main article: Homosexuality

Homosexuality (from Greek homo = same) involves individuals of the same sex.[41]
Gay men

People with a homosexual orientation can express their sexuality in a variety of ways, and may or may not express it in their behaviors.[42] Some have sexual relationships predominately with people of their own gender identity, another gender, bisexual relationships or they can be celibate.[42] Research indicates that many lesbians and gay men want, and succeed in having, committed and durable relationships. For example, survey data indicate that between 40% and 60% of gay men and between 45% and 80% of lesbians are currently involved in a romantic relationship.[43]

It is possible for a person whose sexual identity is mainly heterosexual to engage in sexual acts with people of the same sex. For example, mutual masturbation in the context of what may be considered normal heterosexual teen development. Gay, lesbian, and bisexual people who pretend to be heterosexual are often referred to as being closeted, hiding their sexuality in "the closet". "Closet case" is a derogatory term used to refer to people who hide their sexuality. Making that orientation (semi-) public can be called "coming out" in the case of voluntary disclosure or "outing" in the case of disclosure by others against the subject's wishes. Among some communities (called "men on the DL" or "down-low"), same-sex sexual behavior is sometimes viewed as solely for physical pleasure. Men on the "down-low" may engage in sex acts with other men while continuing sexual and romantic relationships with women.

The definition of homosexuality is a preference to members of one's own sex, though people who engage exclusively in same-sex sexual practices may not identify themselves as bisexual, gay or lesbian. In sex-segregated environments, individuals may seek relationships with others of their own gender (known as situational homosexuality). In other cases, some people may experiment or explore their sexuality with same (and/or different) sex sexual activity before defining their sexual identity. Despite stereotypes and common misconceptions, there are no forms of sexual activity exclusive to same-sex sexual behavior that can not also be found in opposite-sex sexual behavior, save those involving contact of the same sex genitalia such as tribadism and frot."

FALLACY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The need for homosexuals to gather with people of the same preference and be vocal about it sounds really strange to me.
I would hate to restrict my friendship to straight people only. I don't use sexual preference or even gender as a filter for my relationships.
I don't think it'd be very different if I was gay.

I'm with Munji, and froovs on this one. To me, it doesn't really matter what your sexual preference is. It's not really going to change your sound, or the way you play. There's no such thing as gay scales and arppegios. I suppose it could influence the way you look and your mannerisms. Perhaps it would make you choose a pink Lakland. ;)

But here on Tb we have a handful of openly gay members, and I consider them brothers and sisters just the same. I can't relate to the lonely thing, in fact IMO, some alone time would be great :p. Still, with that said friendship, or even companionship, is never based solely on a persons sexual preference. I have friends that are various degrees of gay and straight, but it's not why we're friends.

+1

It's what's between the ears and in the heart which counts.

Let's keep this thread on topic, OK? The subject is Gay musicians, not human sexuality and how it got there.

Well, if there are groups of supposedly straight dudes getting together for a friendly yank n' tug, then I'm going to recommend you start trying harder when figuring out something to do for fun. Whatever happened to good old fashioned drinking until you barf on yourself? :eyebrow:

Even more fun when the cops get called and everyone has to make a mad dash... :ninja:

As a student studying music here at CSU-Pueblo, I know at least 10 15 openly gay or bi musicians. Are they any different from the rest of us odd ball, rejected, weird, loud, rowdy, stubborn, dirty, shameless, different, open thinking party animal musicians here? Not at all. Were all characters in the music bldg, and the openly gay ones meddle with all of us just fine.
