GBE 600 - Speaker Outputs

I've gone through several searches here and haven't found an answer. Jeff (Genzler) is on vacation, so I'm hoping the TBer's can help.

I have a GenzBenz GBE-600 and it has two (2) Speakon outputs AND two (2) ¼" outputs.

What would happen if I connected three cabinets? I have two 4-ohm cabs (Yamaha BBT210s and Yamaha BBT410s) and one 8-ohm cab (Behringer BB115).

I haven't tried it yet, just curious.

BTW, the GBE-600 is rated at 625W into 2 ohms. The manual doesn't say anything about connecting cabinets...except what the connections are.
 
This is some basic stuff, so I hope your question is legit...a 2 ohm load is equal to two 4 ohm cabs (or four 8 ohm cabs)...Pretty sure the GBE600 will handle a 2ohm load (or two 4ohm cabs), but do not try combine two 4ohm cabs and an 8ohm cab...that will take the ohm load to below 2 ohms...you don't want to go there...

The number of speaker has absolutely zero to do with the number of cabs that can be run by the head - that si determined by cab resistance.

Pretty well covered. If you have two 4 ohm cabs hooked up don't connect anymore cabs regardless of their specs.

Killer head. Love mine. It'll run a 2 ohm load all night without a problem. Don't forget to switch the fan to high if you're going to push it all night though.
 
Yes; definitely a legitimate question! I understand Ohm's Law and certainly how it applies with amps. :)

I was basically wondering how the amp handles the outputs to the four connectors. Maybe they're switched so that the Speakon takes precedence over the ¼" outputs. If I saw a schematic (or took it apart myself), I would know right away.

Right now, I've only run either the two Yamaha cabs (both ¼" input, BTW) or one Yamaha cab and the Behringer (one ¼" and one Speakon). That Yamaha/Behringer configuration works out to 2 2/3 ohms.
 
Why would you even want to connect a Behringer cabinet to a GB amp? Not knocking the Behringer (they have their place) but it would be like towing a trailer with a Rolls Royce Silver Cloud!

Pretty good analogy. :p But surprisingly, this Behringer cabinet has defied the brand. I got the cab as part of a package with the amp. I replaced the tweeter and have been pretty happy with it. Not the best speaker efficiency, but not muddy (or hissy either).

That aside, I was just curious how the outputs would work with more than two cabs. Sounds like there is no switching/precedence and that I just must never connect more than two cabs. No problem; I'm really happy with the two Yamahas.
 
If you wired the two 4ohm cabs in series = 8ohms
Plugged that into the output
Plug the other 8ohm cab into the other
You'd get a 4ohm load on the amplifier

I can't; the cabs only have a single input each. But if I could re-wire and run them as you described, I'd get only 425 watts into 4 ohms. I can get 625 watts into 2 ohms with this amp. Or with one Yamaha/Behringer config, probably about 550 watts.

Yeah....sticking with the Yamaha cabs seems the best way to go.

Four x 8Ω cabinets = 2Ω
Three x 8Ω = 2.66Ω
Two x 8Ω = 4Ω
Two x 4Ω = 2Ω
One 8Ω and One 4Ω cabinet = 2.66Ω
Two 8Ω and One 4Ω = 2Ω
One 2.66Ω and One 8Ω = 2Ω
Two x 2Ω = 1Ω
Three x 4Ω = 1.33Ω
Two x 4Ω and One 8Ω = 1.6Ω
One 2.66Ω and One 4Ω = 1.6Ω

The GBE 600 is rated at 2 ohms minimum load. The output jacks are in parallel, 2 x 4 ohm speakers is the limit
