GC New bass damage... thoughts?

And I wouldn’t trust that neck to be good in any way, looks like they turned the bass upside down and hammered the neck end into a concrete pad lol
I’d be concerned about internal stress fractures , I could never truly feel good about it....

No. It started as a $1k bass and they're selling it to you at $800. If it were used in good condition, it would be worth $700. With all that damage, you would probably have to list it at $500 to get a nibble. If it were me, I would consider $600 acceptable if everything else tests out, but not $800. Unless you must have a seven string and that is the only available seven string out there that is affordable, return it.

I worked as staff at a group home for adults that have intellectual disability.
We had one who changed his name to Elvis and wore $1200 custom Elvis jump suits. He'd also wear a WWE wrestling championship belt as part of his attire. He'd often like to " window shop" at GC and would play with their guitars, ZERO musical ability , it would constitute of him turning up his amp loud enough to drown out anyone else playing and strum open strings.
All I could do was " encourage " him not to.
Our behavior specialist believed it was up to GC or the community to offer natural consequences.
He'd go in the acoustic room and jam out with several $$$ guitars leaving buckle rash to the wood in the process, bang them off of each other taking them off the wall , precariously lean them up against amps you name it
I'd try to help him and mitigate the damage but he'd often snap " I CAN DO THAT"
Man talk about tense and embarrassing.
I probably took him a dozen times and kept hoping GC staff would speak up and stop him.

That neck damage would be a deal breaker for me personally. I know its around the 11th fret, but my hand would still slide over that, even with some sanding (just me though). Everything else is not that big a deal for me with a discounted price. What can you live with? If it plays/sounds good to you, than its a keeper. The other thing is - will you ever want to be selling it in the future? Just something to think about.

As others have said. I would only buy from them if I were actually there, inside the store, looking the guitars over.. otherwise no way jose would I order anything again (besides strings or a case) from their website to my house. I once ordered a bass used and it arrived damaged because it was shipped in a flimsy box with barely anything to protect it. Not to mention their pictures of their used guitars on their site SUCK. Can't see anything on their joker pics. Only good I guess is knowing if you live near a store you can return anything without any hassle. No restock or shipping fee.

As for where to buy. Reverb is great from a private seller if they have good feedback. Otherwise, save for a new bass from Sweetwater, Zzounds or direct from the guitar brand themselves.

Dude, send it back. I know that bass. I passed on it in August. (See the 7-string club thread.) What's more offensive is the GC guy offered to sell it to me "at cost" for $650 because of the damage. I figured that with the added tension of a 7-string, I wasn't willing to risk starting with a damaged bass. I can't believe they charged you $800.

Since then I preordered one on Sweetwater, who said they were getting more. Then I found one in new condition on Reverb and bought that. Send it back, be patient, more are coming.

Too much for me. That thing has been beaten, what the heck is going on at the edge of the control cover? If you absolutely have to have that model I recommend you keep looking. One is bound to pop up eventually.

I would not be happy. Some small dents and scratches I can understand and that would be acceptable for me, but this is too much damage. Nobody touches my thrust rod like that!
