That's the plan! Do you think I should look into the SVT or the SVT-CL? I kinda wanna go for the CL.
And also: Would a SansAmp with this rig be overkill?
another sidenote....if you dont have established credit, you wont be approved for a credit limit that will come close to covering all of your dream gear anyway.
Welcome to the world of revolving credit. The interest and fees are like a tax on your wages. My advice: Read my lips, no new taxes. There is no "right way" to use a credit card when you make 200 bucks a week.
So what if you lose out on the $800 bass? When you add up all of the interest and fees, what you end up paying would probably cover the price of a brand new bass.
Gotta love consumer credit. Don't let the approval process mislead you into believing that somebody thinks you can make the payments. All it means is that they are charging you enough interest to cover the chance that you will default.
HSBC is a fee mongering asshat company to deal with .
their level of rules and traps is set on INSANE!
even the 12 month "same as cash" requires a monthly minimum payment....be late and there is a fee. you've got to be v quick and pay that minimum immediately EVERY month.
then pay the balance off a good MONTH in advance of the "promotion end" date (12th month).
don't get into this unless you ***KNOW*** you can handle it financially.
yes, you can get gear in advance, but screw up and your personal credit rating could be jeopardised for more major future purchases like a car or a home, or applying for other forms of credit (like a visa or master card).
if you are under 18, i think you'll be declined for credit anyway. you still belong to mom and dad, legally speaking.
save your $$$, buy used. fender, no....squire, yes.
SVT, no. PEAVEY, yes.
#1 lesson in finances...live and spend within your means.
have a discussion with someone older and wiser about this subject. mom/dad, uncle, etc.
I have been thinking about it a whole lot, and it wouldn't be smart to get myself into debt at 17 (Probably what would happen if I got this card and bought close to 4G worth of stuff). My best choice at this point in time is to just save for what I want. Before, I never really factored in moving gear around in the city. That's gonna take a big toll on my final decision. And also, who cares if that precision gets sold? Yeah, I like the color scheme, but all i'd have to do is buy one in butterscotch and get a red tort pickguard!
I do stand by me wanting to get the Ampeg 610HLF, because it's only 115lbs. That's way better than the 8x10 counterparts 165lbs. However, it kind of came to me that last night, I don't even need a super expensive Ampeg head. I was playing a 100watt Fender Rumble with a Squier Precision at this gig my band played. My friend let me use his SansAmp.. and oh my god! It was amazing! So maybe all I'll have to do is get a slightly loud solid state head (Markbass, anyone!?!) and just get that SansAmp bugger. If my sound could sound so good last night out of a Squier and a Fender rumble, who knows what could happen if I get an actual good Solid State rig!
What would be a good, light, not so expensive markbass head to pair with this 610hlf? Anyone?
And also, thanks so much for all of your help. You've no idea how much i appreciate it!

Andy, why not take a look at GK stuff? I just bought the 1001RB-II and it's plenty loud and versatile coupled with a Bag End 212 and it's pretty easy to move. I had a classic head and got rid of it because with the case I had for it, it weighed close to 100lbs. I think you're making a mistake with the 610 too. Yes it has a good sound, but you a pay a price for that because of it's size. Listen to what people that live in NYC are telling you: SMALLER IS BETTER. You get a good head paired with a small, efficient cabinet, you're going to be heard.
I'd strongly advise against any sort of credit system.
If you really can't wait on the gear, I would go used. Let someone else take the depreciation hit, and take home some great gear at great prices.
^Oh, and Avatar cabs are known for being very light, relatively anyway.
an avatar 4x10 weighs less than 60lbs i think, but still...rmember, you will be carrying that 60lbs from your appartment, to a subway, on the subway, and then form the subway to the gig, maybe with a taxi mixed in along the way. plus, winters are rough and summers are horrid in nyc. i vote that you go madular. avatar is a great an inexpensive option for your siuation...a neo 2x10 and neo 1x12 or 1x15 and you'll be all set. or any combination of those cabs. that way you can bring one cab, a bass and a head in one trip to a gig no problem, or bring both cabs to the ones where it is necessary....although i dont think you'll eb playing places liek that once you first hit the city. ive played 1500 person clubs with a single 2x10 cab and a 350 watt gallien krueger head...a house PA system will handle most of the heavy lifting once you get gigging actively.
