Well I have spent the last fews days on honeymoon with my new warwick corvette and it is great. Am I out of line for thinking that any bass over a grand should come with a hard case though? Well mine "came with" a rockbass gigbag... or so I thought. after cloer exam of my receipt, I found that GC had charged me 70 bucks for the bag. I would never spend $70 on a GIGBAG!!! After two days of use (opened maybe three times) the zipper is broke! I'm on my way back GC later today to try and resolve this issue...so wish me luck.

GC ruins warwick experience!!!

The information I had about my Warwick said it came with a hard case, but actually came with a rockbag. Rockbags are actually pretty nice, and is what ships with all Warwicks(not specifically rock bass brand).
I pointed it out to my vendor that it says I would get a hard case. They admitted the mistake and sent me one of Warwick's Flightcases. I have to admit though, I've ended up using the gig bag more often because of all its pockets and its small size.

GC has been known for doing this. Les Paul's come from the factory with cases, and I've heard stories of people being charged extra for the HSC.

I'm of the the school that any bass that costs around $1,000 should come with a decent hardcase, and upwards of that should include a deluxe case that perfectly cradles something of that value. The warwick bag is one of the best out there though, and I'm pretty sure its included in the price of the bass. From what I've read, some music stores like to charge extra for the warwick case, tools, etc.
I was charched about $140 for a OHSC when i purchased a new MM stingray. I didn't notice it at first, and the overall deal I got was good, but it still pissed me off when I noticed it later..

Not flaming - I just don't understand.
I agree that it is a nice bag... but mine looked like a truck had ran over it, and didn't I complain only because it was supposed to be free! The zipper broke with practicaly no use wich leads me to believe that I got a used case. And I fly internationaly alot, wich is why I wanted a hardcase to begin with.

Not to mention that I actually did pay for the "free" bag... a product that I wouldn't have bought knowingly.
when we did discounts on gear we would not worry about individual prices but just take price off stuff, so if i said free bag i might actually just take 30 bucks off the price of the guitar on the receipt, made paper work easier.
I wonder if they just take the bag out of the original price so it seems lower, then add in the bag under the table or something... how was it done?

GC's advertising clearly states that all guitars and basses are sold with no case or gigbag unless otherwise noted (in their adverting). I have to say, though, that your negotiating skills are somewhat lacking if you leave the store with an instrument and no case/bag or a case/bag you paid extra for. I bought a EB/MM SUB 5 (which ships with no bag or case or anything else) for a ridiculously low price and negotiated free a Warwick Rock Bag. That tells me that a Warwick Fortress buyer (I know that from paperwork in the bag) DIDN'T get what s/he paid for. Negotiating is an acquired skill and dealing with GC will teach you a lesson if you don't know what you're supposed to be getting for your dollar. Do your homework or pay the price!
fact is a shop buy a bag and a bass from a distributor. they now own a bass and a bag. they can do what they like with each, they are not ripping you off by not giving you a bag, they are ripping you off if they give you the bag and charge you for it without telling you
