GC snubs us bass players again

Discussion in 'Miscellaneous [BG]' started by logicman69, Nov 8, 2019.

  1. So I got the new Guitar Center holiday catalog in today. The thing was huge, especially for a GC catalog. I got excited and started flipping through it, excited to see what they were going to advertise for basses... I flipped, and flipped, and flipped.

    NOT... ONE.... BASS

Even brass and trumpets get a few pages, but no bass!

Just shows you what GC thinks about us.

(note: there actually is one bass pictured, on the last page... its in an add for their music foundation)

It would be nice if they considered the tremendous waste of resources that goes into printing that garbage. I'm fine with the snub.

  6. I mean.. Usually we get at least a page or 2 with Fenders, Mitchell, Markbass, and Acoustic. They didn't even do that. It really kind of struck me.

I am long past caring what GC does or doesn’t do; what they might have been in previous decades is irrelevant to what they are now.

Maybe it’s a 2 book catalogue and you didn’t get book 2 which is entirely Bass stuff. Confront your post office delivery person, who probably plays bass.

Got that catalog this week and had the same reaction. Just one more reason why I don’t buy instruments from there anymore

I guess it shows how many basses they are selling.

Sellers devote catalog space to what sells — not to what some like to look at, but what sells. This merely says basses don’t sell so much. That shouldn’t be a surprise.

My thoughts exactly, IDT it had bass strings either? Went to recycle pretty quick.

They don't call it 'Bass Center' for a reason.

I don't expect the catalog to show what they have.
    Go to GC online.
    Plenty of basses.
    Buy used.
    I just did!

  18. GC is a business. They exist to make a profit. If basses outsold guitars, you might see that catalog exclude guitars. It's marketing. Promote what sells. Nothing new here.

I feel exactly the same. Just got a big Sweetwater catalogue this past week, or maybe it was Musician’s Friend, and thought... why?
