Geddy Lee 2001 model

Ive come across reasonably priced 2001 Geddy (less than $600) that is in great condition. Ive played a 2009-2010 (not sure which year) and I loved it. It lacked low end, but the mid range is incredible. With this bass being an hour and half away, Id hate to take the trip if theres some negative remarks on this years model

What can I expect to be different between the two models? What should I look out for with this early model (assuming it has a common issue amongst the 2001's)?

Any other info is greatly appreciated, as I am in love with the fast neck and am dying to buy this, but just want to make sure there isnt anything to look out for with this year. :bassist:

I could be wrong but I had a 2004 a few years ago and I did some research at the time and didnt come across any "standard" problems. Im guessing there are real blocks in the neck not the painted on ones? The neck is the only thing where I wondered how it would hold up down the line as its so thin, but again thats just my paranoia. Where is this bass located? (no Im not interested in a Geddy) Im from Bethlehem and live near Reading now.

Its located in NJ. Im pretty much right on the river about an hour and a half away from the seller, one-way.

I've got a 2002 and i used to have a 2007. The 2002 is solid as a rock, not heavy at all ( just a little over 8lbs) and has tone for years. I can't think of one negative thing about it.

My 2000 model is still playing just fine. Yes I did have to do a few carefully applied truss rod adjustments along the way, on top of adding foam rubber under the pickups to make them adjustable. I also had to craft a very finely tapered and ultra thin wood shim for the neck pocket to get the right touch of back pitch so the highest frets play cleanly. All of that setup work has taken well, and it's one hell of a fine playing and sounding J-Bass. There is nothing about mine that would cause me to lose confidence in it. I gig it on a regualr basis, like every week.

Japanese Fenders are not variable by year like USA Fenders are.

Ive heard the think neck is prone to warping more easily. No issues with that?

Not warping, but it is very sensitive to changes - both tweaking and humidity. Be prepared to adjust it frequently. I did a little mod where I routed the pickguard and the body so I could adjust the truss without taking the pickguard off all the time.

Actually, I've modded just about everything on mine. Nice bass overall but I think the owner will ultimately benefit from making it their own.

Nope. not even the slightest. Like I said, she's solid as a rock, and I have yet to adjust it after the initial adjustment when i first got it. Even IF this neck does warp, I've got a spare lying around, but I dont forsee this ever happening.
