Geddy Lee, best bass player.

I can pretty much guarantee it's someone we've never heard of...
Again, best anything is so subjective. I will also say (someone mentioned influences) that friends turned me on to Rish on about 7th grade - right when I was picking up the bass. Of course Geddy was a huge influence. I learned all kinds of tunes. Even today people have listened to my recordings from church and say they can completely hear the Geddy influence on fills and licks that I do.
Geddy's actually had no influence on my playing. Not my thing. My top pick would be Jason Newsted. Again, "best" is subjective.
He's personally my favorite musician just based on how much fun it is to try and imitate his play style. It is fairly easy to imitate most, but Mr Lee has his own crazy style going on. And that's not even including his singing, synth pedal, and keyboard work.
I'm not shure I understand your reply to my post, with hints of racism witch obviously is not the case. I simply responded to the op with an answer his question called for. Chill a little.
This is about all I was going to say - we're making noise, how do we even define how well one can make noise?
There is noise and there is music, like there is fighting sports and there is martial arts. There's a lot of things that define an artist to anybody else - whatever the art performed.
You can do a paint job but that doesn't make you a painter ;-)

I've seen this Pink Floyd cover band video before. SOOoooo awesome. Maybe the best ever. They should win an award for "each member playing on a different ONE"
Like I said earlier, I am a HUGE Geddy Lee fan. I worship him. He is my God, but it is IMPOSSIBLE to say he's the best because you can't quantify opinion. Millions of people will and do say he's the best, while millions will and do say Krist Novaselich from Nirvana is the best bass player on Earth. I like his tone, but I would never say a guy who plays three notes is the best bass player. Again, that's my opinion.
So, the Best bass player in the world is whoever you think it is and you are correct in saying so for YOU.
I don't think there is one "Best" Bass player. It's like asking who's the best Football player, to which I'd say "For which position?".

IDK about "cute", but I like it when 'professionals' bust out with Squires or Epiphones.

I hate Rush, but GL has some incredible chops.
He sings like a duck on helium, but he can play.
Really, all three of those guys are virtuosos, but their music sends me lunging for the "off" switch.

The top best musicians is usually the studiomusicians, alot of monsterplayers that never got famous through a popular band etc. How do you measure a musician? Tecnique, musicality, how fast too learn new songs, make all kind of songs groove no matter the genre etc, versatility. There are so many things too consider that one best bassplayer wont exist, but there sure are bad ones, good ones and monsterplayers. Becoming a rockstar on the other hand is abojt meeting the right people who makes the right songs, often you can get away with pumping root notes with horrible tecnique and still be a star. I guess thats one of the more unfair parts of doing music compared too doing competative sports.
