Geddy Lee Jazz New Price.... WHAT?!

Yeah, I've watched a number of them on eBay, but in these times of economic suck, I've decided to just keep my USA J-Bass, with a Bad-Ass II on it.

Anyway, in this economy, who's brilliant idea was it to jack up the price? I don't think anyone worth their salt has purchased one for over $1200!!

Marcus Millers, I think, also went up @ $100 or so...

This is getting just plain silly
Come on Fender, when Gibson lowers prices and you raise yours.......
Need i say more?

Gibson is irrelevant in the big picture IMO as they sell a very limited number of basses. This would be like comparing Martin ABGs to Fender basses.

Fender owns a large portion of the market and decided to raise prices. People are upset because a large percentage of TBers play Fenders. If Martin upped the prices of ABGs, would very many people really care?

As always, BUY USED anyways!;):D

I have to say this, and I sure some folks will not like it- there is not a Fender that is worth a grand unless it is pre CBS. Folks might pay that for them, but I think it is nuts. Frankly, I played a Squire Modified versus an American Jazz, and I liked the Squire better.

Better yet, I played a Sandberg Californian this afternoon...wow!

A Fender is worth whatever someone is willing to pay for it. It's fine if you don't like them, but that doesn't give you the right to belittle other people's taste. I like my $1100 Fender just fine, and it's worth every cent that I paid for it, thank you very much. :rollno:

I won't be getting rid of mine..I love the tone and bought it for $649 new a few years ago..It WILL go up in value down the road, no doubt...esp when they stop making those basses someday...and Rush won't be performing forever either..(Except in our hearts and minds) which could lead to higher demand by collectors and new fans of the band down the road...

I NEVER would have thought my 76 p bass would be worth what it is today..it was a bang around bass for me in the day...the GL will be worth more one day...who knows...maybe Fender will stop making basses in Japan and move them to Malaya or India...

These threads won't ever end, will they? :crying:

I swear, every other day.

Let's say it again.

Fender increased prices across the board. So did a bunch of other companies, and theories as to why are as numerous as members here on TB, so take your pick. This is old news. It might be a good idea to make it a sticky, honestly.

To both of you're comments, I know, I'm getting sick of those topics as well. But that price hike already happened with the Geddys once this year. The new price list was supposed to set them at 999 street. But now they hiked AGAIN. That's why I made this post. Sorry for contributing to the ongoing fender bashing, I have been quite frustrated by seeing all of page 1 consumed by "Fender is nuts!"

I love all of my Fenders. Just something about them.

And really, if you look at it from a different perspective, Gibson lowered their prices while Fender raised theirs, and now the two are very evenly priced in the market. An SG bass sells for about $1400 and a T-Bird sells for $1500.

But then, the Strats and Teles aren't nearly as expensive as SGs or Les Pauls.

And that's a perfectly legit reason to start another thread, except that no matter what angle you start a thread on thise subject from, the responses will all be exactly the same. "ZOMG!!1!1 fender Raizd there prises Agin !!1! they SUXX!!!!1!!1" for the first 2 pages, interspersed with "Holy hell, another one of these? Really?" followed by a page or so of posts mocking the spirit of the first two pages, and then the thread is forgotten and a duplicate is started 2 days later.

It sucks, because a real uninterrupted discussion on the price hike has yet to take place, and probably never will. But all there is to say about it has pretty much been said, if you look hard enough in those earlier threads. It's just real sporadic.
