Geddy Lee neck?

Exactly how thin is the neck on the Geddy Lee Fenders? Is it available seperately or are there specs to reproduce it. I got a little extra cash recently and am gonna fix up my old P-Bass (frets are completely worn and neck has lots of dings--plus I hated the wide nut width) and was gonna get a MIM Jazz neck b/c I heard that they feel very thin and fast.

However, if the Geddy Lee neck is even easier to play (I slide a lot and have small hands), I might want to but that on my bass or just save and get a Geddy Lee bass.

The neck is extremely thin. I'm sure someone on here has the exact specs, but you'll notice the "wow factor" right away. Definitely different. With that said, in a place like I'm at (St. Louis) you will find yourself adjusting your truss rod all the time. Temperature, humidity, phases of the moon..everything seems to make this neck change. It is worth the work though. (btw, I've talked with a lot of people who don't need to adjust as often - so it's not a certainty that you'd need to).
I'd save and get the whole bass, though.

Check Evil-Bay. They pop up there every now and then. They ususally go for about $250, though.

True. But nothing else looks quite right with the black blocks + binding, it's classy but pretty badass at the same time.

Geddys are great basses. The neck is actually a little too thin for my tastes. I get a little cramped feeling.

It's made to the same measurments as Geddy had the Fender custom shop build for him. I agree with some earlier posts, it's a little too thin for my tastes but it's a good Jazz bass for sure much better than a standard MIM in my opinion I fretted (no pun intended) a long time over one before I bought my last bass (MIA Jazz) I feel I made the right choice for me but the Geddy Lee is a very nice bass indeed especially if you like black

+1, and I'm one of the folks who pretty much rarely needs to mess with my Geddy neck, and I'm just up the road from you in central Illinois, so I see the same incredibly changeable weather as well.

Nope, it's different. It's shaved thinner, and it's also got a larger fingerboard radius (9.5" vs 7.25"), so the fingerboard is "flatter".

It's one of my most "fun to play" basses I have next to my Zons and my Roscoe.

I played one recently in the Bass Centre in London and didn't really get on with it to tell you the truth. I tried a MIA Fender Jazz with an S.I. pot and it sounded and felt a whole lot better. The sound of the Geddy Lee was thin in comparison and the neck felt just "too" thin.

Just ran to the local ScAM ASH Music store at lunch and tried the Geddy that they had in stock. Sounded ok...I like it. They tried to sell me the one on the wall for $699 plus tax. I hate that place. I will decide later today whether to get that or the Aerodyne or Urge I basses I was considering.

I might even get an allparts bound/blocked neck and shave/sand it a little to make it like the Geddy neck and slap it on the SX Jazz I have.

I do have to admit I went into a music store recently and played the Geddy on the wall and an ugly flat black highway one... the new one with the graphite bars and BA-II bridge, and was more impressed with the highway one's tone. In fact, I had to leave before I bought another black four stringer I didn't need...

I agree with you Vic, I also played a regular MIA Jazz while I was there and the geddy was a little thin (It sounded ok though), which is why I nmight just get an unfinished 9.5 radius neck and shave/shape it myself. Maybe I will get a Jaguar Bass!!!

The active bass boost on the Jag definately fixes the "little thin" problem.

Did you haggle? Did you ask for one out of the back?

They'll almost always flex on price. I've known people to get them for a few dollars over $600.

Here in Long Island they dont seem to want to bargain...if I could get it for $600 even I would have bought it right away...I even told the guy that I got the cash on me...what could he do for me. Nothing.
