Geddy Lee Pickups

I have a GL that we put an Audere JZ3 pre and DiMarzio DP123 Model J pickups in.

We took the stock GL control plate and pickups and dropped them into my son's 92 MIM Jazz and it really changed the response!! Much more aggressive like a good Jazz should be...:p

Say what?! lol that is a great amp especially through the 4x10 and 1x15 cabs. We play VERY loud the new drummer is a maniac and the two guitar players both have Vox 2x12 AC30's I usually am at about 6 on the amp and still have a ton of head room left. It sounds great through my "SQ" Squier P's, Jag (w new 2009 MIA pups) all my SX's (modded and stock)

Maybe im just unlucky the GL I had was a dud I guess it was heavy as snot and had very low limp output. The jag did get more defined after the MIA pup swap

Young man, There is a difference between LOUD and power! Anything can be LOUD but it takes a lot more than 200W to be POWERFUL! You are using a 4x10 cab and a 1x15 cab together, each cab is sharing 100W's, My car stereo is louder than that and it's stock!!! Do not confuse loudness with power, you say you are at about six on your amp and you have headroom left? I think all you have is air left after that! 200-300W's is the bare minimum bass players need to start with to be properly heard in the audience you are maxing out you amp using two cabs just to get 200W's. Do yourself a favor, go to any music store and try out any 500W head and you will notice a BIG difference in what you call headroom, and believe it or not 500W's is not a lot of power! When you have a rig like yours and use two cabs to get 200W's anything after six is going to be DISTORTION! you are not sending the cabs anymore usable volume and if you turn up you bass knob I bet all you get are FARTS!!!

First of all all MIJ/CIJ basses lack something in the electronics dept, This is purposely done to not be on the same page with it's MIA counter parts. Geddy basses have OEM MIA vintage pups, CTS pots and decent electronics. It does have a lower output than all my other MIA jazzes but nothing my GK1001RBII can't handle with the use of the volume knob. The Jaguar bass has MIJ/CIJ electronics including copies of MIA vintage pups. The Geddy bass is no heavier or lighter than any other of my seven jazz basses with the exception of my Victor Bailey which is two or more pounds lighter than the rest.

On the same page, are the pups in the classic 70s then the same as the MIM standard?

I loved the sound of my Ged, but had to sell because of the neck! I'm on the lookout for something similar, but TBH, it's a 50/50 between the classic 70s (great look) jazz or a MIA standard (costs a lot more, but obviously better).

My Ric is my main bass, but a jazz in reserve would be great. Hence the classic 70s, as it is a fair bit cheaper, and maybe more like a Ged?

Believe it or not, those Acoustic amps really are powerful. 200W is a VERY conservative estimate. I wouldn't doubt for one minute that his setup could keep up with a loud band with headroom to spare. Have you played that setup? It's pleasantly surprising, to say the least.
