Yes, Geddy plays fingerstyle. He keeps the nail a little long on his right index finger to simulate a pick sound. I've never been really up-close at a live show, but from seeing the Exit: Stage Left video, it appears he digs in pretty good.

I played "Bastille day", "La Villa Strangiato", "The spirit of radio", "Tom Sawyer", "Limelight" and "YYZ" (with the "Cygnus X-1" tag from "Different stages") in my only serious experience with a rock band. It was incredible to me to play some of my favorite tunes (specially "La Villa", my all time favorite) in front of a (small) audience. "Bastille day" is a cool and playable song to follow "Tom Sawyer". 
Geddy Lee is my god. Rush tabs are what I'm usually playing, they're fun. although they sound a lot different when I play them, with flatwounds on a fretless yamaha through a p pickup. still, I find it more fun that way.
I really dig Geddy. Any opinions on a "first" Rush song to learn. Any ideas on books for sheet music/ tab?
First songs??? I'd start out with their older stuff first, and work your way to more recent...Geddy's playing has become much more sophisticated and subtle over the years, and if you jump in to the recent stuff first, you'll find that simply learning the notes is not the hardest part!
Besides...the earlier stuff will help you alot with learning the fretboard and your ear-development!
Try stuff from Moving Pictures, first. Songs like Tom Saywer, Limelight, Vital Signs, Witch Hunt, and even Red Barchetta are easier to play than other stuff. They just SOUND harder to play!
Lastly, try to learn this stuff by ear. And, if you have the patience, pay attention to his subtleties...they're pretty cool!
Anything off of Moving Pictures definitely would be a good choice. Not only are they GREAT songs they also aren't too easy or too hard to play. They are really fun to play along with and have some cool fills all over the place.

The Rush best of CD Chronicles is pretty good for an overview of Rush's music it has both old and new stuff. It's cool to here how their sound changed. I have to say though Moving Pictures was so big its hard for me to listen to songs like Tom Sawyer.
This is a song that is surprisingly NOT as hard to play as you'd think...the verse is pretty much only two chords: E and B. And, you don't have to move your left hand much to play this...the right hand "skips" over strings, so what sounds like very fast notes is a simple technique...
The part during the solo is definitely harder. But, there are two things that you need to keep straight during this section: timing (the solo doesn't start out in 4/4 time) and the fact that he revolves around the "D" chord. Check out the link below...

If you want to try some more fun, kind of difficult songs, try "Analog Kid" off of Signals. Geddy goes off on that one! My high school band played that and I thought I was the coolest thing for learning that bass line. When the fact is, nobody cared! I find it very humorous (now).

I was Geddy for most of the 80's. I played everything over and over. I started really playing other stuff like Geddy would, not even on purpose. He's got one of those styles like Chris Squire and Stanley Clarke that realy have these subtleties that you eventually adopt unconciously.
Eventually, I stopped playing Rush tunes for a long time. When I went back, I really noticed how different his playing was and how it developed over the years.

Yeah I read that Les Claypool said if it weren't for Geddy he probably wouldn't be playing bass. Indeed Les is amazing as well.
