Geddy Lee

Geddy is a major influence on me as a bassist. My older brother turned me on to them at a young age - and I've been a fan since (well before I started playing bass). First song I remember was "In the End" from All the Worlds a Stage, and that high register intro - one note at first, but synchopated so nicely.

Too many great songs to mention - and I agree with many that the DVD "In Rio" is great!!

As for the lyrics - one of the most poetic songs I've heard is "Time Stand Still" - that song will always give me goosebumps.

Hope they keep on playin' and make a tour stop down here - ya'listening up there in Canada?!? We're dyin' down here in N'Awlins - come on back!

When I was a kid, my dad always used to listen to Rush while in the car, and I always liked it. One of my favorite songs was "Freewill" because of the awesome bass solo. Last year, I downloaded some Rush and I really liked it. A few months after that, I saw them live on the VT tour. I've been a Rushy ever since. I started playing bass because of him. His playing is amazing and his tone is awesome. I got a Ric for christmas, and my Sansamp RBI should be here next week :).

I bought "Counterparts" the year or so that it came out, and besides hearing "Tom Sawyer" and "YYZ" on the radio, its all I knew of Rush. Back then I played drums more and was really into Neil and was alittle disappointed that his drumming lacked all the mega fills of the earlier stuff I had heard. I lost the tape and then didn't discover Rush again I started taking bass lessons. My teacher was a Rush JUNKY. He WAS Geddy Lee. The guy could do the bass parts and the synthesizer parts just like Geddy. I've never seen anyone get so pumped up just watching "Exit... Stage Left"

That was about 2 years ago, and since then Geddy has been a complete influence. His playing, his tone, everything. He's incredible. Granted, I don't care for the new album and some of the albums during the mid to late 80's (except for Signals. I LOVE that album) But I'm trying to listen to them with a different mindset. I just got "Live In Rio" too and it inspires me every time I watch it.

Now, hopefully I don't get TOO inspired by Neil or I'll keep adding on to my drums :)

Red Barchetta is Da'Bomb!!!!! I learned that for a band i played in a few years back and learning a Rush song would open any "Geddy Haters" eyes out there...it taught me alot I know that!! and I am sure I wasnt playing it note to note but people that heard it thought I was GOD..Which I am not but I loved playing it ;) :bassist:

I think "Alien Shore" is one of thier best. I love the bass in that song.

I just saw them last Saturday in Houston, awesome show. I think it's the best I've ever seen them in person. The animated shorts and whatnot were hilarious too. :D

Did Geddy suddenly go into a pirate accent and sing about "searchin' for me gold" during Temples of Syrinx? He did that and I was almost rolling around on the ground laughing.

No, it's not too big... The Ampitheater walls are natural Red-Rock, all lit up from the stage show...you're sort of surrounded on both sides and the back with huge walls of this stuff. Behind the stage you can see the Denver skyline. When Rush played, there was a HUGE lightning storm behind Denver, so we had a great view of the beautiful red rocks surrounding us, Rush's stage show, and a lightning show in the background!! GREAT STUFF!!

You took some great pic's! Guitarist friend of mine caught the show in Dallas..he said it was very much like the Rush In Rio DVD and went very well. He was very impressed. Hopefully they'll come around again..I'd sure like to catch them in concert. The Rush In Rio DVD is amazing...I'm considering a fridge stocked with cold drinks as my next back-line! :D
