Well now, if you watch the R40 tour DVD, he plays a different bass per song...the only bass that gets more uses than one is his #1 '72 for these songs

But, but, but! I keep reading on TB about how iconic P Basses are.That one is the most iconic of them all.
He has a 1959 Fender Precision and a 1963 Fender Precision as well as a Telecaster Pink Paisley Precision. I think it's safe to say he's covered. He doesn't deny the P's iconic sound which is why he has a few in his arsenal but the Jazz has always worked for him. IIRC, the 59 and 63s have really wide nuts so for a guy like him who plays all over the fretboard quickly, that wouldn't be ideal for him.
Only someone of his stature would be able to do that...haha. You can duplicate it all you want but it'll never be THE '72 Jazz.

I don't think so, his original looks much more like the first photo. The body doesn't have the wear of the second photo and the neck has black (not pearl) block inlays:

I took three buddies from high school to that show. Two of them were not Rush fans when we walked in. When we walked out, we had two converts with us.
That was in the old Spectrum arena, which has since been torn down. I miss that place, saw a lot of Flyers hockey games and concerts in there back in the day.

I saw them twice on the Time Machine Tour, but Power Windows probably takes the cake for my favorite Rush album, so consider me envious!

So a new neck, rewound pickups and bridge? I wouldn't call that the same bass. Personally the neck is more important to me then the body

It's the same bass. The pictures of the neck with the black inlays and less wear are older. That neck was replaced with one containing pearl inlays about 10 years ago, hence the additional 10 years worth of wear.
I have a Rockline interview (R.I.P. Bob Coburn) from 1984, where Geddy says that Percy Jones was an influence.... that's how I learned about Percy. I love Brand X.I'm guessing nobody will follow the pictorial 'logic'.

I saw them play RTB in Chicago on the R40 tour a week before the 6/19 Toronto show that I also attended (bucket list, last Toronto show) and in Chicago I was blown away by the sound of that P-Bass he used. Had such a punchy, yet deep tone to it along with that bark. WOW!
Then again in Toronto....I was 13th center floor and that bass tone blew my head off. Couple of blokes in from London, England in the row in back of me...commenting right before the song about how great it was sounding at the Air Canada Centre,...I turned around and said "wait till' you hear the sound of his bass on this next tune".. I heard them right after the first couple of notes... the punch from that bass hit us all in the face. (Hey that's a great lyric)...
I thought I was all done G.A.Ssing until I saw that bass two weeks in a row... The sound was great...wait, that is an understatement...it was effing' incredible!
I know lots of people that consider RTB a "bathroom break" song. I never viewed it like that. In fact, I think it's a great song, even with that 'rap' section. It is my least favorite Rush album though... Good Wal bass tone but not a whole lot of notable bass work on it. Except for a handfull of songs after it, Presto, in my opinion, was the last album where Geddy seemed like he had something to prove on the bass. Just my opinion.
When Geddy broke out the P-Bass for RTB on the R40 tour....the first two notes he played, reverberating through the entire arena... it was magical. Made the song ROCK.
The P-Bass on RTB sounds great on the DVD but the way it sounded live in the arena.... I was grinning from ear to ear and left speechless. After thirty seconds I was GASsing for a P-Bass...
