Geddy's new neck

I remember reading a couple years ago that the neck on Geddy's original '72 Jazz finally gave out, and that on the Snakes and Arrows tour he swapped it with one of the necks from his signature line. Well, now it looks like he's switched necks again, and also has a new pearl pickguard.

The new neck has white (pearl?) inlays rather than the black. Is this a custom job? Are these necks available? I like the look of it, a lot.

Funny... When I first heard of Rush, Geddy was ALL about the Ric 4001, so every Rush head I knew ran to get one (and chided me for playing a lowly Fender J bass...)

Well, think about this. The neck he was using, the black inlay one, was from a Geddy signature. A mid-range japanese neck. this new neck is Custom shop American, it probably plays a whole lot better. Thats top of the line stuff.

The old neck sounded like Geddy. Every bass he plays sounds like Geddy. I doubt this is any sort of sonic improvement.

I think this was done probably because the Signature neck that got sanded down finally gave out (like he projected it would in an interview) and he took an aesthetic leap here. I like the results a lot better than how the actual Signature looks.

Is he still bringing his "lowly" 4001 out on this tour for "Passage To Bangkok" or have those days passed us by?

The black blocks are what I liked least on them, they always look cheap to me. The pearloid blocks on the other hand, on maple or rosewood, look a lot better to me regardless of the rest of the bass color.

Now maybe Fender will jump on this and start offering the pearl on maple neck on more models (as opposed to just the Marcus Miller). I was a sucker for that look back in the 80s.

I meant that it had just essentially run it's course. I believe Geddy said something to the effect that the truss rod was simply shot.

No Rick on this tour. Everything was a Fender (CS, I'd assume). I'm holding out hope that when they decide to do Power Windows in its entirety that he'll pull out the Wal again. Yeah, right...

I really dig the way this new configuration looks with the pearl blocks and pickguard. The bass sounded noticeably better to me this tour but I have a feeling that had more to do with using amps this time.

Saw the lads a couple of nights ago in Philly and got a close look at his arsenal. Nary a 2+2 neck to be found...
