If he were to bring back a Ric, get him to bring back the 4080. Ged and Alex with doublenecks, that look was so awesome.

Saw the show last night at Saratoga Springs. Geddy's old jazz bass with the new neck clearly overpowered the other two jazzes he used in terms of sound output...much thicker and aggresive ...almost active sounding. The show was loud, perhaps the loudest Rush show I have ever seen and I've seen a few.

I'd say he used the black/pearloid bass for about 75% of the show. Should qualify for #1 status. ..
Necks and pickguards are interchangeable. That's his #1 Jazz, just with a new neck and pearloid pickguard. check out the other "geddy's new jazz" forum. It's got up close shots.
The bass he used last night for the majority of the show was the beat up lookng black jazz with the new neck (white/pearl blocks).

why would he do that? he recorded that whole album on the jazz bass. the rick was shown in videos at the time only for effect.
Not the whole album John. I saw an interview with him where he said that Red Barchetta was 100% Rick.
Also, the Limelight and Vital Signs studio videos showed him with the Jazz. The Exit...Stage Left video was live, and all Rick.
Geddy will always sound like Geddy no matter what he plays. I, for one miss his "less distorted" tone, be it Jazz or Rick. A Passage to Bangkok from the S&A tour sounded just great.

Man that is his number one. He swapped out the cosmetics. If you look it has the same holes and wear patterns
Really, really good here in CT. I was impressed with everything and I think he gives a little something extra to get that part in Freewill after the instrumental section.

How 'bout that red CS he uses for 2112? My buddies had to hold me back from bum-rushing the stage, yanking it off his skinny ass, and making off with it!
huh. i thought everyone was that loud... there was like this barrage of thick "whushing" noise before me and their playing.
it kind of made it a bit harder to hear everything they were playing. half the time i could hear geddy and half i couldn't..
i think it was just the effect of how loud they were on my ears. great show though.. glad to say it was the second concert i've ever been to.

i don't blame you haha. that's one of the best looking jazz basses i've ever seen.
I was in Saratoga Springs last night too. They were definitely louder than any other time I've seen them. Still, they sounded great to me - the playing was top notch as usual, and Geddy's tone sounded better to me than it has in a while. Meatier, for lack of a better word.
I did notice the custom shop logo on the back of the neck on his main Jazz (definitely looked the same Jazz to me). I managed get pics the other basses Geddy used throughout the night.
The red jazz (still probably my favorite looking bass - this pic doesn't capture any of the flame in the top)
This Jazz was black/black block/black pearloid with a D-tuner - they used it on Stick it out.

I wish he would go back to a Ric. Very few things sound as good as Geddy on a Ric to my ears. I beleive on the Snakes and Arrows tour they played a few older tunes, and he busted out the Ric for them...it just sounded better in the mix to me.
