Geddy's new neck

I was in Saratoga Springs last night too. They were definitely louder than any other time I've seen them. Still, they sounded great to me - the playing was top notch as usual, and Geddy's tone sounded better to me than it has in a while. Meatier, for lack of a better word.

I did notice the custom shop logo on the back of the neck on his main Jazz (definitely looked the same Jazz to me). I managed get pics the other basses Geddy used throughout the night.

The red jazz (still probably my favorite looking bass - this pic doesn't capture any of the flame in the top)

This Jazz was black/black block/black pearloid with a D-tuner - they used it on Stick it out.

Whatever happened to that video of him giving a rundown on his rig on bassplayer.tv?

How was his singing, BTW?

I saw them on July 3rd, and he was singing really well. A few of the older tunes were a bit to high for him now, but he used to be able to sing silly high. I wish he would just drop the vocals on those an octave...it would be easier on him, and sound better live.

I like the pearloid. I don't think I like it better then the black blocks, but I like it. But, I prefer the Sunburst Jazz with the maple board and black blocks.

Thanks for posting the pics.........anyone find the new neck wider looking than the black blocked ones? I thought Geddy was in fine form. I noticed that Neil Peart is scaling down his drum solo a bit but who can blame him after all these years and the setlist they do. Got to be pretty demanding.

Everybody. Listen. Show your Geddy love and join the Geddy Lee fan club I started. He inspired me to pick up the instrument, how about you guys. Ok but continuing on the actual topic, that Red Jazz is my favorite of his jazzes. It sounds the ballsiest, good old 60'
s pups and placement, not the 70's he usually uses. It also looks very pretty.

I was looking for that not to long ago! It pisses me off they took it down. Probably to make room for some no-talent punk bassist.

Not the whole album John. I saw an interview with him where he said that Red Barchetta was 100% Rick.

mea culpa. you are right, and i stand corrected. according to this interview, at ~4:00'ish :



he played the rick on red barchetta and "he thinks" limelight.

No Rick on this tour. Everything was a Fender (CS, I'd assume). I'm holding out hope that when they decide to do Power Windows in its entirety that he'll pull out the Wal again. Yeah, right...

Neil has said often in the past that he didn't want to tour into his 60's, and I believe he's 59 now. I wouldn't count on many more tours from Rush - I'm not even holding my breath for one after this one is done.

they've already stated that they will be doing a bigger tour after they release clockwork angels. that will put neil firmly in his 60's.

i think a lot of the "i hope i die before i get old" comments by young musicians tend to get thrown out the window when they become old musicians.

The bass he used last night for the majority of the show was the beat up lookng black jazz with the new neck (white/pearl blocks).

I saw my second show of the current tour last evening at Red Rocks (32nd overall). I had a chance to chat with Howard Ungerleider before the show, and I asked him specifically about this bass. He said it was an all-new Custom Shop from Fender for this tour. The original pawn shop bass we all know and love is strictly for studio work these days.

I also asked if Ged tried looking at other basses for recording or touring. He said that Ged has offers like that all the time, but he's happy with his CS Fenders and doesn't even consider others anymore.

For anyone that doesn't already know, the red bass is tuned down 1 whole-step. Geddy switches basses for the different tuning. (Also, Alex's guitar, usually a black Les Paul, is tuned down as well).
