Geezer's live bass tone

Anyone know how to get his live tone? Specifically on their live reunion album. Thanks

he uses his signature emg bass pickups that come in his signature usa lakland p, somebody else might know the rest though

I saw Geezer on this most recent tour and his tone was pretty much the usual P bass through a Hartke. I only got to hear the tone when a roadie did soundcheck, you couldn't actually hear Geezer for %95 of the show. The only time you could hear him was on his black P bass, pretty sure it was tuned to C, even then it was pretty muffled.

I've seen sabbath twice the last couple of years, once at lollapalooza and the other a sabbath only show at philadelphia from the 13 tour. I heard geezer well enough both times. His tone is pretty much a p bass with rounds with aggressive finger style playing. He uses a wah for the intro to NIB and he probably only uses the hartke as stage monitors and goes through some sort of pre or DI. I've played a hartke kilo and a p bass at a store and didn't quite get that tone and I play pretty aggressive myself.

I saw them last summer and could hardly hear Geezer except for the high end. It could have been where I was sitting but the kick seemed to drown out the bass most of the show.

He was most likely DI'd to FOH. Blame the "sound man".

Like the others said. A Lakeland P Bass with his EMG Sig. pickup through a Hartke. He uses DR Black Beauty/Neon Strings. I've also found that you can get a pretty clanky tone that's kinda similar to what his sounds like using an EHX Steel Leather Bass Expander Pedal. Which I have and it's also great for Steve Harris type clank tone.

if the reunion show you're talking about was the '98 double disc, his whole rig was completely different back then. he was using vigier basses (the arpege and excess models specifically) and was using ampeg amps. not sure on which exact heads but they were one of the svt pros.

+1. The Geezer EMGs didn't exist back then and he didn't start playing Lakland just yet.

I mean unless you plan on cutting his fingers off and putting them on your hand you will never have his live tone. Find a rig and playing style that sounds best for your band and go with it.

I lost interest in Sabbath after 1970. However, by the time "live records" were being released in the late 70's, there was a GREAT DEAL of track fixin' and replacement going on. This technique was being done CONSTANTLY, for major releases, by the time Reunion was released (1998). Pro Tools | 24 MIX and MIXplus was everywhere.

not sure how that's really relevant to my post. I was simply pointing out the gear he was using at the time. recording/editing/mixing techniques and protool/mixplus usage of bands seems like a topic for another thread/forum.
