gene simmons cort bass

Not bad. Could use better pups stock for the price range. But as a specialty market bass, not bad price really.
Unless you're in a Kiss tribute band, it would feel very weird to show up at a gig with this bass...unless you're in one of those parody horror show bands 
Apart from these 2 situations, I don't see it working...and I do play in a metal band 
But as we all know, there's a thin line between self irony and humour & kitch and ridiculousness....and this bass surely crossses it
I was puzzled when I 1st saw the pics on the Cort website...and I'm still thinking wth were they thinking when they took the decision to built this bass ?!?

Part of me wants to make this into the Axe the TF2 Pyro uses.

That is the only reason I personally would play one.
Lots of them will end up hanging on a wall in Kiss fans houses. Bass players and non bass players alike IMO.

That's precisely why I would play it. I'd be the kind of guy to go and get the most stupid looking tough guy metal bass out there and then play some soft shoegaze on it or something.
I just purchased one of these basses new online and am excited to get it. Came out to around $431 shipped ($469 new on Ebay with 8% cashback). Like others have said before this, I wondered if I could be taken seriously playing a bass like this. But that is not the point, it is about fun. No one would buy this bass as a serious bass, your main "axe" to play at all your gigs, but as a fun bass to pull out from time to time, hey, it's fun! I showed the picture to several friends and bandmates (I'm in three working bands) and every one thought it was cool.
Cheap pickups? Who cares? I have played basses that cost $100 new (SX) and they sound great, not too much different when mixed into the band sound as my American made Fenders do. I have also upgraded pups before to find that all things considered, not much of a difference is made. Granted, I haven't received the bass yet but am excited to bring it out onstage for some fun, some ooohs and ahhs and a couple laughs.

I wrote the last post about two weeks ago. Since then I have received my Gene Simmons Axe and have used it at a gig. Very nice. The workmanship, feel and playability are very nice. Two problems though, at least for me. As the review in the recent Bass Player mag stated, there is neck dive. Not the worst I've seen, but it is there and can be a little annoying. The second, which is more of a personal issue, is that the upper body, where my right wrist and forearm are to rest against the body of the bass, it feels like a Steinberger to me. Not much of an upper body/forearm or wrist rest. So that makes it a little uncomfortable, or as I said, makes it feel like I'm playing a Steinberger. As far as tone - great. Sounds fantastic. Certainly I EQed my amp a little different than a typical Fender, but I am very happy with the tone. The crowd and my friends loved it. Certainly the cameras were coming out and there were smiles everywhere.
Granted, this will not be my main bass, afterall I have about 15 that I use, but for fun, to pull out here and there, why the heck not? Sounds good, loooks good, alot of fun to play. Damn good deal!

I thought these two demos were very very cool and informative. Nice sound demos. I particularly liked the one with the Neil Young looking guy who was playing it.
