Gene Simmons Direct Box

Yeah, you can scan youtube and find videos of name musicians at a gig with a piece of tape covering the brand of their instrument. (You can still usually tell.) I was told this can come from two reasons: 1) either they don't want to advertise at all for a brand because the company refuses to do an endorsement deal with them; or 2) they actually have a deal with another brand but wanted to use that instrument for some reason in that show.

Radial DIs don't have a "sound," per se. In fact, they're supposed to be transparent as possible.

The Gene Simmons sound is actually a combination of sources sent to the mix: the aformentioned Radial DI, providing clean bottom end, and a miked SVT cab, providing the dirt and dialed in for proper phase.

I always thought Gene was a cab mic'er but if his techs said that's what he uses, then who am I to argue? But I wouldn't sweat getting the exact box Gene uses. All Radial DI's are pretty great.
