Gene Simmons is Good

Meh. I like Gene Simmons. He's one of the main reasons I started playing bass in the first place, years ago.

But, then, I guess I like Warwick basses, Ampeg amps, I don't think the Aguilar DB750 sounds muddy, etc., so really, what the hell do I know??


Oh yeah---I watch his "Family Jewels" show, and like that, too.

So there.:p

How do you know Gene didn't play on those "good bass tracks"

I'm a kiss fan from the 70's and I am into musicianship, although I don't regard Kiss as advanced players, but sometimes I prefer simple rock as much as Jazz or Classical music. AC/DC is a good example of the same simple music that rocks and look how popular they are!

As for your musicianship comment, I am also a classically trained musician and can read advanced levels of music in both clefs, can you? If you can't read music's written language,( not tablature) your only a player, not musician.

Kiss music is just simple rock n roll and it isn't supposed to be regarded as brilliant works of art. love it, like it, hate it, that's why music is categorized for different people and for different taste

you must be a "player" and can't read music, that's why your offended. Hendrix is great!!!! a great guitar "player"!!! so is Steve Howe and other guitar and bass "players", but don't mince words, they are guitar "players"
I never said anyone sucked,you did. I was just taking a shot at the guy who posted "Kiss fans aren't into musicianship so it doesn't matter".
But none the less I stand behind what I said "If you can't read music's written language,( not tablature) your only a player, not musician"

Ok.Mom was a classical piano teacher.Before I could even "play" an instrument I was spouting theory.I was an all-state tuba MUSICIAN(read music) in highschool.I was also in choir,where I read music.

When I got my bass guitar,I didn't bother applying my reading skills to it.I didn't need to.All I needed to do was find the notes.I have a good enough ear and enough theory background that I can find what notes go with any given chord.Do I regret not keeping my reading skills?Yes,Studio work would be much easier to come by.

Dig this if you will.My buddy Steve played sax in highschool.He could sightread anything you put in front of him.Take away the sheet music and he was clueless.Couldn't even improvise over the simplest blues changes.We started an improv band and put him on bass.Suddenly he was playing great,imaginative walking bass lines.He was actually more MUSICAL on an instrument he couldn't read the music for.(bass clef)


As for "I didn't say anybody sucked,you did",maybe you should actually read what I said.

Must have sucked to have written so many great songs and not be considered a musician by people posting in an online forum..............
