And be able to spell correctly too! it's spelled "CAPITALIZE" you idiot!
KISS had some catchy songs in the 70s, but have not done anything remotely catchy since.
Just curious why people want to give Gene Simmons a bad rap...He is a very good ROCK bass player.
I'd also have to say that I would gladly give up half of my talent for just a tenth of his success.

Terrible musician. Good businessman. Look at how long he's managed to stay well known.
If there's a good bass track on any Kiss recording, he didn't play it. But, Kiss fans aren't into musicianship so it doesn't matter.
How do you know Gene didn't play on those "good bass tracks"
I'm a kiss fan from the 70's and I am into musicianship, although I don't regard Kiss as advanced players, but sometimes I prefer simple rock as much as Jazz or Classical music. AC/DC is a good example of the same simple music that rocks and look how popular they are!
As for your musicianship comment, I am also a classically trained musician and can read advanced levels of music in both clefs, can you? If you can't read music's written language,( not tablature) your only a player, not musician.
Kiss music is just simple rock n roll and it isn't supposed to be regarded as brilliant works of art. love it, like it, hate it, that's why music is categorized for different people and for different taste
Poor Jimi Hendrix,Steve Howe,Lennon,McCartney,Richards,Etc,Etc,Etc. Must have sucked to have written so many great songs and not be considered a musician by people posting in an online forum..............
they wrote it? was it in notation on music ledger sheets? or did they go we will jam on this 8 times then a chorus , another repeat for second verse then will change key for 16 bar solo then fade out with chorus...thats not writing that's jamming
...I like you to check out Tales from Topographic Oceans or Relayer by Yes and just call that jamming. They have jamming moments true, but I don't think you can write off a lot of the material on those albums as merely jamming.
Are you kidding me? I mean....do you really believe this, or are you just out for a (s)TROLL?
If so, breathtaking arrogance, my man. Kudos.
None of the Beatles could read either. So what are you saying?![]()
BULL!

Isn't having (and expressing) creative talent a form of success in its own right? What a sad sentiment. Your talent must not be all that important to you, if you would so eagerly prostitute it away for the sake of filthy lucre...

Maybe you should think before you call someone an idiot. He's from the UK. They spell some words differently than we do in the US.
Person A is very creative and can conceptualize great music but cannot write the music down on paper. Person A dictates his ideas to person B who puts the notes on paper. Person C is able to play the written music note for note from the paper produced by person B, but C has no original ideas that he can call his own. Who would you rather be: A, B or C?
Ahhh, ok, you're one of those guys. The problem is that I could be the MOST talented bassist in the world, but it would be empty if I couldn't share it. I love music and entertaining even more than I love my own talent...not quite the narcissist you seem to be.
Talent is only a part of this whole thing, bud. I can only figure that you're a pretty young guy if you haven't figured that out yet. I'll tell ya what...let me know which alley you will be curled up in and I'll be sure to drop a dollar in the can so as to help support your "talent".

Well, having talent and having the platform by which to share that talent are two separate things. Now that you've redefined the issue in this way, I would find little cause to disagree with you.
By the way, I'm actually 10 years older than you. And I have an entirely separate career by which I earn the great majority of my income. Whether or not I'm a narcissist is quite irrelevant to the point I was making...
Hmm... Maybe I'm not so much one of "those guys" as you thought...
MM
Well then, we both seem to have made assumptions...not really a good way to start a relationship![]()
Look, I've seen my share of bands built up with incredibly talented individual musicians, and I respect them for that. But those groups tend to be fairly bland on stage and their songwriting can leave a lot to be desired. On the other hand, I've known bands whose sum is greater than their individual parts and when they come together their real talent shines through. I would personally rather be associated with the latter group of musicians, but that's my own thing.
