Gene Simmons is Good

Seems like young Gene was quite the McCartney fan!

He was/is.

Where did you get this info? That's the first I've heard of it.

GENERALLY....besides the first 3 albums where the original members played on the tracks.

Songs Paul wrote, Paul played bass on, or the lead guitarist in the band at the time did. There are some exceptions later on (Jean Beauvior on Uh! All Night)

Songs Gene wrote, Gene generally played bass on.

Songs Ace wrote Ace generally played bass on.

Dick Wagoner played on "Sweet Pain" off of Destroyer. Differing stories, but either Ace was drunk or more likely the producer used it as a power play (like with Aerosmith, Floyd etc.)

Sorry, I won't name that person in a public forum. It was someone in the studio with them at that time. The first two KISS LP's are what I'm discussing, not DESTROYER (Sweet Pain). It wasn't the producer or band that wanted this to happen, just the record label. Just because KISS was a good life band then, didn't make them a good studio band.

Adulating any bass player as a god is taking it too far. McCartney is an innovative bass player who has influenced many bass players. I like his Beatles playing. He's not a god to me. There are other players I like much more. They're not gods either.

Sorry to insult you....and yes, I do like your choice of words better than mine! :D

My take was kind of like when Clapton was mentioned as a guitar God. Strictly a phrase...nothing meant to insult or disrespect anyone.

Sorry, but without names and actual proof, I don't believe this any more than I believe Carol Kaye played Jamerson's parts on old Motown songs. I think you could understand why...anyone can make these claims, but without proof, they're merely rumors. Besides, there's nothing on those albums that Gene couldn't do.

+1

(except I do believe Carol Kaye......:hiding:)

Had to laugh when I read the post title, & I've always had a lot of time for Kiss.

But the guy's early bass lines were great stuff. Nothing technical but very melodic & propelled the songs perfectly. I urge anyone to check out Sunday Driver, 100,000 years or Room Service. Simple, well executed, very musical & muscular where needed.

Unfortunately tho Gene did not play on Dirty Livin', Detroit Rock City or I Was Made For Loving You, which are three of the best bass parts on Kiss songs. He turned into a snugglemuffin with the Destroyer album & never looked back, killing any reputation as a decent player he could have possibly had.

It's like associating Bill Gates with a first class, efficient operating system. He did have one once, a long long time ago.

Why? Because you can't stand to admit that that's a Genius Bassline??? That's fine.:spit:

If this doesn't do anything I officially give up:mad:

I guess if the Gene-hating asshats can't recognize talent besides unnecessary flash, then so be it.

Regurgitated standard major/minor (even though i doubt Gene knows the difference) basslines?

Sorry there isn't a whole lot of talent required, you can play bass for a month and be able to write things like this, it is nothing new, and wasn't when he did it either; so don't pull the originality card. McCartney had been doing it for years before Gene picked a bass up.

Oh please with the regurgitation. Who doesn't regurgitate standard major/minor in rock and roll? Might as well hate everyone with that impossible standard.

BTW, nobody really cares whether music is hard or easy to play except musicians.

At what point will we believe that the internet has been repaired and we can continue with something else? What exactly ,8 pages ago, was the point of this thread? WEre we all supposed to say "Oh wait, the opinion I formed X number of years ago in my musical experience is now null and void due to a three sentence counter point on the internet"? Doesn't look like either camp is going to wave a white flag any time soon, so I'll be the first. You can use a P bass for Jazz.........

Oh wait, wrong pointless thread.

I know I am keeping it going, but I get bored.
