Double Bass Genz Benz Shuttle 3.0-10t combo

Nice to see this thread back to life. I bought my 3.0 combo 5 months ago largely because of this thread and a few others. Same here- couldn't find one locally. I've used mine exclusively since the day it arrived and am really happy with it. I haven't A-B'd it to the higher end DB combos, but I'm really happy with the tone, power, and features. Crisp, not boomy, and a lot of body. Planning to get the extension cab eventually just for extra padding, but so far there's been no real need. Most of my gigs have PA of some sort, but it stands up fine in small to medium rooms and is a fantastic stage monitor in louder situations.

I generally just run my Full Circle straight in, and the DI straight to the board with no issues. I'm not a huge EQ guy, so the PlatPro doesn't get used too much (the soundguy's gonna fix/screw up the PA mix anyway.)

One interesting experience: at one point it the signal started cracking up and fading out radomly during a rehearsal. I emailed GB to see what they said before taking it in (under warranty.) Within hours I got a response from Jeff Genzler himself, with his phone number, saying it was probably corrosion on the effects loop jack and an easy fix. I got him on the phone and fixed the problem in a heartbeat myself and it has been perfect ever since. Talk about customer service!

Bought my 3.0 - 10T in December. I find it's not muddy and easily the best sounding low B on my 5 string I've heard yet from a combo. I get lots of use out of the LF boost. I really like the FET tube simulator gain (although I may still want more a more gritty growl). So far I have not needed to use anything else in small bars playing without a drummer but competing with 2 sometimes loud amped guitars. I tend to like an articulated sound rather than a 'thud' and this puppy delivers. A small plus is the almost perfect compatability with my old SVT 15" cab : )

Just been to the Gallery to collect my Sei bass after some repairs. I was testing out my bass on a 12" shuttle, which I liked and got a nice sound out of quite easily.

Then I tried the 10" version, I fell in love with it very quickly, it is so clear, has lots of sparkle and attack.

Easily guessed from the picture, I bought it. It was also a delight carrying it up 4 flights of stairs when I got home with it too. ;)

I know this thread is an old one, but it did help with my decision to go Genz Benz and I'd like to add my recommendation to the Shuttle 3.0-10T Combo.

These two make a lovely couple.

I bought one a month ago when I had to send my Eden traveller 390 for repairs.

I found a great difference between the two.

let's just say I had to buy a compressor and an eq.

very little headroom on the amp so the compressor was needed to get a little more out of it, the eq to give it a bit warmer sound.

all in all it's a pretty good amp but the Eden is better.

I turn the treble down two or three clicks and I get an amazingly warm fat and loud sound out of this tiny combo. For denser mixes the treble knob stays flat.

I'm just going to jump in on this 17 year old thread and say that my Genz Benz Shuttle 3.0 10t is still the best sounding combo I've found for upright and low volume bass guitar playing. Super clean and transparent without being sterile, and if I want more color for bass guitar, it's a great pedal platform. You can always make an clean amp more colored with pedals and EQ, but the same doesn't work the other way. I also don't find the need for an external preamp with upright, which is simple and convenient.

Now if only the 10 inch extension cabs weren't impossible to find.

I have a 3.0-10T, but got a GB Focus 112 too and with a light tweeter attenuation the Focus 112 sounds so much better than the 10T.
For a regular concert I would always prefer the Focus 112.
I could mount the bracket from the 10T on the 112, but then the combo would get a bit bulky. GB made a 6.0-12T combo and I’m sure that it sounds great, but for having something more compact the 3.0-10T is indeed nice, but for me still not perfect.
The 3.0 with the Focus 112 is perfect for me.
I only use the 10T with the Focus 112 if I need the volume (outdoors with the Latin band and the EUB). Soundwise they won’t fit together well, but pointing the more aggressive 10T to the percussionists and horns and the Focus to the audience works.

I might be an oddball, in that I tend to prefer cabs that are more focused with less low extension. To me the 10 inch shuttle cab hits the frequencies that I like in the right way. Of course a HPF can be added to any cab, but to me the 3.0 10t is "plug and play". I owned and tried to love the 6.0 210t, but it didn't quite do for me what the 3.0 does. Not as focused and clear, and a bit more effort to dial in. It could be that I should experiment mixing and matching the 3.0 head with different cabs, but I love the combo aspect my current setup. That being said, I don't gig in my rock power trio with the Shuttle 3.0 10t...but if I could find the matching extension I might.

Agreed I played a Shuttle 3.0 10T and a 6.0 12T with DB at our local Jazz camp one summer. Even though the 3.0 had considerably less available power
on hand, it sounded better with DB. Just my take of course. With some DB’s 12’s are fuller.
