Double Bass Genz Benz Shuttle 3.0-10t combo

Has anyone tried the 3.0 with the 8" speaker? I'd be inclined to think that it wouldn't have enough depth for double bass but there was a post that the 10" handled the slab B string with ease.

I think the 8" might work for my small venue gig. I play in church regularly in a hall that holds about 150 and my Polytone is just enough for that at 120 watts. I think I can conclude that the 3.0T + 10" would have just as much output as the Poly but it might be a stretch with the 8".

Last night the guitar player used an AER that was about the size of a lunchbox and it was more than adequate. He was all packed up and gone by the time I was bungee-ing my amp to my suitcase cart.

The nearest GB dealer is an hour and 15 minutes away so I was hoping I could get some objective inputs before making that drive.

Thoughts?

Yeah i would really like to hear more about the tone and sound of the 8 inch model.
I was planning on buying a new amp for under $500, but after reading the reviews on this amp, i think i will work extra hard to get some extra cash to afford one :)

spring for the ten. i haven't played the 8, but the ten is working to get down low, and i can't imagine the 8 getting there ... i'm very, very tempted to pickup the ten ext cabinet for ebg stuff ... the amp just keeps killin me ... the parametric on it is crazy flexible. and yesterday found myself walking along hauling the db in one hand and the full amp rig in the other and didn't need to be hospitalized after ... just love it.

I found the 8 to be very flexible in getting some good tones and it went surprisingly low for an 8 but you can't beat physics. It won't go terribly low or loud and farts out with any lows cranking. The Focus/Wizzy 10 still wins by several miles, but is much more $$$.

It's no problem to plug in the 10" extension with the 8" combo. Also, though, Genz is supposedly bringing out the 8" cab as a separate extension cabinet this summer, along with the 12" cab they use in the Shuttle 6.0-12t combo.

Finally got the chance to gig test my 3.0-10t combo with a fantastic gypsy jazz combo last night (Link Removed)

I've got a Fishman full circle on my ~45yr old Schuster hybrid with Spiros. Short story: Fantastic!

We played a small outdoor wedding reception with no PA support, then a loud bar gig with PA (The Pike, Long Beach CA); about 6hrs of playing -- I have some pretty gnarly blisters under my RH callouses now!

The outdoor wedding reception was a breeze. I left the amp pretty much flat, and we played at a nice low volume for a dinner of about 150 people or so. Not even close to pushing it. Did I mention how amazing this thing is to load? The two guitarists in our trio both have significantly heavier (still small) Roland acoustic amps.

Next gig was more of a challenge acoustically. The drummer from Social Distortion owns the place we played, and he sat in with us. A phenomenal violinist also joined us for a while, as did a really good female vocalist. It was a tiny stage in the corner of the room, no monitors. I sent an XLR out to the house system and used my amp as a monitor. I had to set it on the floor by my ankles (angled up with the built in prop), right against a wall. The settings I used outdoors didn't work as well here, but I was able to use the EQ to quickly dial out some of the boominess (lowered the bass by a couple detents), then dialed out a bit of piezo quack with the parametric, and boosted the treble by a couple detents to get a bit of crispness to the attack of my pizz. The EQ is POWERFUL! A couple of clicks make a big difference. Took me less than 2 minutes to get a good sound; Over the course of the night I boosted the volume a bit as we (and the crowd) got louder, but the settings stayed the same. We tore it up -- people dancing all around, clapping and yelling. Fantastic gig, one of the most enjoyable ones I've ever played.

I conclude that buying this amp will make you a happier, more fun person.

Actually, it will just make your bass louder. But it does a really good job of that, and for a reasonable price, and in a phenomenally easy-to-use and transportable package! I've tried lots of different amps, but I can't see replacing this anytime soon. I don't think I'm going to even need the extension cab unless I'm playing electric. I can't believe the "thump" this 10" puts out -- I could feel my sound as well as hear it. Buy this amp now!:hyper:

did an outdoor jazz gig last night (urb, sax, electric guitar, drums/vocals) with a Shuttle 3.0 and EA Wizzy 110. input with a Fishman Full Circle, home-built copy of the fdeck pre.

our sax man (band leader) walks across the way to the john inside the main building about 150 feet away as I'm warming up and tuning. he said the bass was heard clearly even inside the building and I was at a lower than gigging volume!

once the entire band got going, our leader walks out a ways to check the balance through out the gig and kept complimenting the bass, great sound, strong and very clear.

I haven't gigged with the Full Circle before, because it sounded too thumpy and muddy, used an Underwood until last night. I had a new bridge fitted and had the Full Circle inverted from it's original installation from "threads up" to "threads down", with the pickup now pointing to the strings. this change really enhanced the Full Circle, more clarity and articulate (but less stringy and trebly than the Underwood) with more girth than the Underwood. this, combined with the Genz/Wizzy got the most compliments ever on a single gig! My "regular amp" is a Euphonic iAmp800, while it has a ton more power and sounds neutral and dry, the Genz handled the gig fine. the Genz does have a bit more "color", but it has a very appealing sound to my ear. looking forward to more gigs with this setup.

How do you compare the Shuttle speaker to the Wizzy?

Using the PJB Flightcase for most places it works great
But find I need more power for outdoors and big halls

I purchased the amp head only. at the time I auditioned the little Shuttle, the only small GB speaker cabinet that the dealer had was the 12 that came with it's big brother the 6.0

would like to hear the Shuttle 10, but I'm actually quite happy with the Wizzy.

the eq is set with the bass a couple clicks cw of noon (1 o'clock?), mid hz set at 9 o'clock, mids cut at around 10:30-11 and highs cut to 11 o'clock. if I run the Underwood, I'd boost the bass and cut the mids and highs. all of the presets are unselected. the sound gets better the higher I run the preamp volume and then use the master volume to set the output.

the best word I can describe it with is 'warm' when compared to my iAmp800. the attack has maybe a tiny bit more cushion to it (less edge?) than the 800 which sounds very clean and dry. the 800 can be less forgiving of my sloppy playing as well ;)

Don't know about the shuttle head, but the Arriba AC-160 bag for disco lights works GREAT for the shuttle 3.0 10t combo! It's like it's made for it.

little pouch on the outside for power cord, cables, and my fishman preamp.

$25 on ebay from prosoundandstagelighting, auction says used, but they're not, they are NEW!

LOVE IT!
