Genz Benz shuttle 6.0

There might be updates for it, if they haven't already been done.
There are some updates for the Shuttles.

Every once in a while a problem with a pot will return, when that happens it's usually because they were damaged by somebody cleaning it incorrectly and it didn't get caught when originally repaired. I try hard to catch these but it's not always possible since the damage is hidden. That's why there's a warranty on all repairs.

I have a Shuttle 6.0 that I had worked on by Agedhorse. The updates are nice, but IMO only worth it in the context of having an actual issue fixed, when you factor in the cost of shipping both ways and labor. Like if I didn't have scratchy pots or anything, I'd just keep it as is. Just my two cents.

Well y'all have given me a lot to think about. Not the purchasing decision though, all the endorsements made that a no-brainer. Done deal there.

As for the DM issue, my privacy settings are standard, I haven't limited anything or anyone. So looks like I couldn't DM @agedhorse even if I wanted to move forward with things. Sleeping on it might not be the worse thing even though the idea of updates and a once over for piece of mind is intriguing.

I was able to DM you, check your messages and look for the service info attachment.

I also bought a used Shuttle 6.0 for not much money . It worked fine but had some intermittent noise barely audible . I sent it to Andy and he did quite a bit of work on it and it's now like having a brand new amp . With his very affordable flat rate added to the used cost of the amp I bought it was quite a bargain . Also in the very unlikely event it ever goes bad again I know it will get fixed right .
Can't beat that .
Also it sounds great and has a lot of power , I don't know of any new amp that can compare for the price .

Just curious - I have a Shuttle 3.0 - what type of "updates"? Are they just reliability things, or performance enhancements?

In case it matters, I don't yet have a cab to pair with it, with the exception of possibly testing it out through the effects loop on my Rumble 150. That's assuming Chat GPT is to be trusted on the subject, in that it's safe to do so long as volume is kept very low.
Effects Send of Genz to Effects Return on Rumble can git you something.

NEVER CONNECT A SPEAKER OUT TO ANYTHING BUT A SPEAKER!
NOT EVEN AT LOW VOLUME.

It sends out high voltage, not an instrument signal.
Think of it as Wall Power comes out of the Speaker Output, you will fry any equipment hooked up.

Welcome to TalkBass!

Make sure to give a report with pictures when your amp is received.

Picked it up. Yet to spend any time on it but the seller, who was a great guy,

I didn't trust our AI overlords enough to risk it. Even with my ignorance about these things it seemed fishy, but thank you for explaining"the why" part of the problem with this.

And I officially picked it up. Had some time to take it for a very brief test drive before purchase but have not yet put it through its paces at home (manual says I can use headphone jack without speaker load). Early impressions are that you are all correct, this thing is niiiice  It's something I can grow into. I could easily could get by on a much lesser product, but man am I happy with the sound this thing produces. Tested out through a MarkBass cab, I was quite impressed.

Seller brought up that it actually does have some scratchy pots and voluntarily took a little off the price. That move may have effectively subsidized the cost of sending off for repairs; I'll have to see if it bothers me enough after more usage, it didn't seem terribly egregious.

Time to begin the used cab search. Turns out it was purchased as a combo but unfortunately he sold off the cab separately... bummer. I'll probably look around for comparable options, something in the 1x12 or 1x15 would suit me just fine. Exciting times!

It depends on the revision level. There are a couple of possible updates that deal with things like low level intermittent noises and distortions.

The 3.0 had a long production life, so small issues that we discovered years after the amps were built (even after the company was shut down) have been addressed.

Also meant to follow up since there were several attempts to help me out and people kind enough to DM me since I couldn’t do it.

The mystery of the unavailable DM button is solved. Got a mod message explaining the situation as such: “for new members, there is a minimum post limit for accounts before DM's can be sent to help discourage new account spammers/scammers.”

Not sure what that post limit is, but wanted to share that info (and chip away towards reaching my minimum post limit). Thanks again, all.

Another Shuttle 6.0 user wishing you the best with yours.

I run my head through either a pair of 2x10 cabs in a vertical stack or sometimes just one of those cabs at smaller venues. Everything in this head - eq, line out, reliability, etc. - is just right on.

I encourage you to get to know the gain control at the front end of that amp and see how it reacts with different instruments when it's cranked up vs. backed off a bit. I'll also note that I've never been a fan of any sort of "mid-scoop" switch or "contour" control on any of the other amps I've ever used. But the mid-scoop filter on my Shuttle 6.0 is incredible for taming a mildly harsh and honky sounding custom P/J that's more of a backup bass than my regular player. This excellent mid-scoop filter gives that bass a much smoother tone that's still bold and solid in a mix.

Cheers 🤘

Hey thanks so much. I’ve had a lot of fun experimenting with settings so far, including with the gain knob across my instruments. Still have lots to familiarize myself with, but the learning process has been a joy. I was pleasantly surprised with the saturation from one of my hotter pickups.

I’m sure I’ll do more experimenting once I settle on a cab. I suppose I’m leaning towards a 1 x 12 or 15 just for current needs, but a 2x10 is in consideration. I’ll probably stay patient -with great difficulty- and watch the used market for a bit. I don’t require the full 600 watts (yet!) and am thinking more about portability with regards to cab sizing and weight right now…. of course that could all change if the right deal pops up

Since most 112 and 115 cabinets will be 8 ohms, that puts you in a good power handling and matching situation since the power from the amp is ~350 watts into 8 ohms. You want to avoid 4 ohm single driver cabinets because there are no true 600 watt RMS single driver cabinets that are suitable for bass guitar (voicing), and 4 ohm drivers are generally less sensitive than their 8 ohm counterparts anyway. Adding a second 8 ohm single driver cabinet will always provide greater performance.

Right on. 8 ohm cab is what I’m on the lookout for. Appreciate you sharing knowledge between the effects of different impedances to solidify this decision.

Relating to wattage, I’ve come across 350 watt options but, going off the advertised 375 watt figure at 8 ohms, I was figuring that 400/+ watts was indicated.

If my read of the below thread is accurate though, less than 400 could suffice (assuming it’s not indiscriminately pushed/attention is paid to speaker distress) ? 350 could be in play afterall?
