Genz Benz shuttle 6.0

Hi all,

I've perused these pages from time to time over the years but this is my first post.

I'm a complete novice looking to make a move from combo amp to rig, and wanted to seek collective wisdom on having a Genz Benz shuttle 6.0 serviced. I hope to be picking one up very soon that I found up for sale on a different platform. I don't know how extensively I'll be able to test it before buying. Seller says he's the original owner and reports no known issues. I understand that @agedhorse is the go-to for maintenance matters (I attempted to DM but can't seem to find that option).

Is the flat rate repair indeed still an option? If so, how can I get in touch with @agedhorse regarding specifics of initiating the process?

Is my assumption correct, that it's worth sending out proactively for inspection/maintenance versus waiting for an issue to arise?

Is there anything that can be done (e.g., minor mods or upgrades, cleaning) in the event it gets a decent bill of health?

I'm just a below-average Joe on bass whose excited at the prospect of snagging a great piece of gear for my first rig, so any feedback would be greatly appreciated. In case it matters, I don't yet have a cab to pair with it, with the exception of possibly testing it out through the effects loop on my Rumble 150. That's assuming Chat GPT is to be trusted on the subject, in that it's safe to do so long as volume is kept very low.

Thanks in advance!

I'm sure @agedhorse will be here in no time, so you'll get it right from the hors... (sorry).:bag:

In the meantime, I had a Shuttle 6.0 (Bought used, was several yrs old when I bought it). I got it sight unseen, and I played several hundred shows in N.E., from frozen winters to the beach shows in summer for with ZERO issues. Powered 2 Epifani 112s with it.

The only thing I "could" mention (wasn't an issue for me), was IF the amp sat for a few months with no use, some of the pots got (VERY SLIGHTLY) scratchy.

*Note- Only little scratchy when turning a couple knobs, and if ya took a few moments to turn the knobs up/down a few times, it went away.
(DO NOT SPRAY 'cleaners" on these- It can come back worse, more often /and OR ruin the pots altogether). I 'Think' the P.O. may have sprayed em at some point.

Anyway, can't stress how minor that 'lil scratchy issue' was. I would by another in a Heartbeat. (But now I have something Newer, a couple hundred more watts, "PLUS", this new one is also from a "Similar Design Horse, I mean House" ). ;)

Ahh good to know! Very much appreciate the response. Thanks for sharing your experience. I'm eagerly awaiting a response on the seller's availability. I've heard only good things about these shuttles and even though it's honestly beyond my needs at my level as a musician it's was too hard for me to pass up!

And thanks for the warm introduction to the TB forums!

(I attempted to DM but can't seem to find that option).
Go to post #4 of this thread and hover the mouse cursor over the desired TB members name (green). This will open a pop up menu for the user's profile.

Click the link in red, and a tab should open to allow you to write a DM. Fill out the Title and message, and click "Send direct message" at the bottom of the page.

FYI, some user's adjust their profile so that DMs cannot be sent to them.

I appreciate the responses. Thanks so much, all. I would love to follow through, but seemingly can't! I did reach out to the mod team yesterday about this too- got the same guidance but I don't seem to have the same available options!

(edit: the more options drop down does not include the send DM option either)

@paul is the big dog. Perhaps he can either fix the issue are explain why you don't/can't have the necessary rights to DM.

I had the same issue with mine. I sent it in to Andy to clean. Got it back and the scratchyness returned. Annoyed me so bad, I ended up selling it. I was sad because I loved the amp. But I moved on.

You will love this amp. I have tried all the GB Shuttle amps, my favorite being the Shuttlemax 12.2. I still use a 6.1 Shuttle for most gigs. Very intuitive EQ section, enough power for most gigs, lightweight, no issues.

I asked specifically about scratchy pots... the guy just said everything works fine. So fingers crossed.

Thanks, I hope so. Pumped to get my hands on it and take it for a spin. Been doing lots of window shopping, finally making a move.

And what a helpful community- thanks for all the input and troubleshooting help!

Did you do this on your preferences? If you disallow people messaging you the forum software will reciprocate of not allowing you to not send any messages to anybody

The good news is that statistically, if the amp was going to fail through any fault of its manufacture, it would’ve done so in the first few months.
So likely you won’t find anything distressing, maybe just a little dust build up.

I wouldn’t worry about having it checked out until after i got it and after it failed, but that’s me.

Research the going rate for the amp, what any necessary repair or refurb would cost, and then compare those numbers to the offered price of the amp you're considering.

Two years ago, I bought a used Genz-Benz Streamliner and sent it to @agedhorse for repairs.
Then about 10 months ago, I purchased a used Genz-Benz Shuttle 9.0 and it also needed repairs.
I described my Shuttle 9.0 experience in this thread:

TLDR version: unless the amp has been damaged by the attempts of an unqualified "repair" person, @agedhorse can fix it.
My Shuttle repair cost more because it had been damaged by a hack - but it's been bulletproof since I got it back.
