Genz Benz Shuttle 9.0 Appreciation Thread

meh...it wouldn't matter to you either way. I remember one night you were driving me and Jeff around Northern Cal some where.

I beautiful college lady dropped her nickers to moon us. You just kept on driving, explaing the thermo nuclear non-linear extrapolation of some theorum.

I almost broke my neck trying to jump out of the car.

It happens so often when I drive around that I hardly even notice anymore ;)

So had my first gig last night with the Shuttle 9. My guitar player couldn't wrap his mind around the fact that this little 4lb box was a 900 watt bass amplifier. His and my singer's only question was, "do you have a backup amp in the car?". I told them not to worry ;)

So I finished setting up and plugging everything in, power on the 9.0 and... nothing. about 5 seonds later it then came on. And then shut off again. The power cable it came with was the culprit - fit too loosely into the back of the amp. I swapped it out with another and that fit tightly and no more problems. Don't know if anyone else had this prob.

The amp sounded great. Bandmates very impressed and happy. I started with everything close to flat and made tweaks as needed. Standouts were the punchiness thru the neox212T, a really tight, focused, punchy bottom - that punchy thump that just really smacks you in the chest, and I guess I can only call it evenness across all the registers. Very consistent from the low B string on up the neck. At the end of the gig my bandmates approached with hats in hand, and declared themselves believers.

Here's a quick sample from the gig - Zoom H2 sitting next to me, hearing basically what I hear:

nice , I love these amps , my guitar player had the same thought , and then WOW , everyone loves it , have fun

I will look into this power cord thing when I get back to the shop after the holiday. I have a 9.0 sitting conveniently on the bench so it shouldn't take long. One thing about IEC power cords is that some are pretty tight fit and need to be pushed in to firmly seat the spring contacts. Generally ours fit tight to prevent vibrating out. Can somebody confirm that pushing harder causes the cable to seat? It may feel loose until seated.

Happy Thanksgiving to all you guys BTW.

Yes, mine seats and makes contact with a little additional encouragement. But, I would not describe the fit as tight. I suspect the issue is with the contacts inside the molded plug.

Happy Thanksgiving to all!

The whole socket on my 9.0 isn't snug in the back panel.
It's a little loose but the cable itself seat firmly even after hundreds of times putting it in and removing it.

IF things slow down a bit after the new year, I should send it in for some GB TLC. I just don't have any downtime of any length right now.

The socket should float a little bit, there are internal nylon retainer fingers that keep the socket into the panel. It's an industry standard part/method of retention.

I'll check it out later this evening. It seemed more like the outer casing of the power plug was just smaller than normal so it didn't fit tightly, since another cable didn't have the problem.

Still a minor issue since I have plenty of these cables kicking around. :)

Let me know what you discover.

OK it's actually the opposite. as you said it's actually an unusually tight fit so it takes a little force to get the plug all the way in. While it felt like I plugged it in all the way it was really not.

Problem solved. I'll actually start using this cord now that I know it just needs a little extra push as it's much more secure once in.

Look at these Genz guys making sure their customers are ok on Thanksgiving! :)

==========================

Edit: Upon further review of the supplied cord, it goes in to a point where it FEELS like it's plugged in, but it's not. An extra push gets it all the way secure, but then it's almost too tight and difficult to get out. it feels like I could damage the power input. Since I gig a lot I don't want to risk it so I'm simply using another cord instead. Not an issue as it's just a generic cord. The amp has exceeded my expectations and is a keeper.

+1.

I gigged my Shuttle 9.0 w/my Berg AE410 again last night.

Total bliss. It's just so easy to dial in great, great tone.

I continue to get compliments from musicians in the audience too...

"tight" "punchy" "big low end" are the most common descriptors.

Great amp, and a great company/great people!

The point of the tight fit is that with a bass amp there is a lot of vibration and to prevent the power cable from walking out ofthe socket there needs to be a pretty snug fit. This is more common also with the pro audio manufacturers because many of these products travel thousands of miles racked up and the cables need to remain secure.

I am positive that a few folks that had problems with their amps shutting down and mistakenly attributed it to bad power were actually due to the power cable not being fully inserted into the socket. Once they corrected this they had no further problems.

OK, mine came in today. I've messed with it for about a half hour, and have to say there will be no buyer's remorse here. I plugged it in to my AE212 and it sounded great set flat. It gets richer with the bass boost engaged without mud or muff. I'm a huge fan of semi-parametric mid controls, and this one works great. I put it at about noon, which sounds like about 800 hz, give it a little boost, and I've got my punchy, growly J-bass tone. With the three filters, there are a lot of possibilities. I have to believe the AE212 plays a significant role in creating the tone that comes out of this setup. This is my new gig rig. My seller's remorse from selling my WWU is pretty much history.

A side note: I got my WTDI yesterday, and it took a little more time to dial in, but it's going to be a great piece of kit, too.

I've found a very similar tone using an AE210 with the 9.0. Obviously not as big as the AE410 but similar.
