Genz Benz Streamliner, Part 10

I posted this on the rig of choice for this weekend thread, but it definitely belongs on here as well. My band just opened up last night for Lynch Mob and Dokken.

Our stage was just opposite the main stage so Lynch Mob was able to start about 10 minutes after we finished. The gear of choice was a Genz Benz Streamliner, UBER QUAD and 115 with 2 G&L M2000's.

Here are just a few pics from last night.

I have a SM 9.2 and a STL 900. Wouldn’t get rid of either of them. Both are genuinely superior amps.

I sold my Shuttle and kept my Streamliner. Both are great but I used the Streamliner more and the guy I sold the Shuttle to is a friend who had always wanted a Shuttle ever since he tried one but missed the chance to get it new (he didn’t have the money at the time). So I was happy to make his day.

watch out, I did the same (mine was a 9.2 and a Streamliner 900) and ended up keeping both for a long time :D

I have Bergantino CN112 and HDN210 which I like both separate and together with my Streamliner 900. I find that, when I play them together I really need to use a HPF - it seem more so than separately. I also have a Bergantino HG310 which is excellent with the 900 but the 900 only goes down to 4 ohms so I can't pair anything else with it.
What cabs and/or combinations of cabs do you like with your Streamliner 900.

I’m running mine through a Genz Benz NX2-212T. It’s the only cab I have, but I’m glad I bought it! Sounds killer.

I’ve been using my 900 with one or a pair of Berg CN210 cabs.

One thing to consider - a series speaker cable. I just made one, and I can run my 2x210 rig at 16ohms instead of 4ohms.

You would be able to run your 310+210 or 310+112 at 12 ohms.

My brain is pretty foggy right now from too much work and not enough sleep, so it’s hard to think about watts and ohms and power distribution...

There’s a whole thread in the series speaker cable and Streamliner thing. And maybe someone else will chime in here.

I read about using a serial cable and I PM'ed a certain designer/engineer that frequents TB. He pointed out that using multiple cabs with mismatched impedences in series, the amp delivers power in the opposite format than in Parallel; i.e.
Parallel: 5.3 ohm and 8 ohm cabs, the 5.3 ohm cab get more power than the 8 ohm cab
Series: 5.3 ohm and 8 ohm cab, the 8 ohm cab gets more power than the 5.6 ohm cab

I did make a series cable but I haven't tried it with the HG310 and either of the other cable as the CN112 or HDN210 (both 8 ohm) would get more power than the HG310 (5.3 ohm). I may still try it as I have nothing to loose (unless I incorrectly configured the series cable...or maybe not ;)).

Just use your ears and be smart about it. It all depends on your volume needs.
If it's more about tone and not so much about volume, it might be worth checking out.

I build a cable, but it was mostly a fun at home project to kill some time and occupy my mind during these crazy times.
