It is difficult to put into words.

When you plug into to the Streamliner you are there. No knob turning, no tweaking, no looking for a VLE setting. Your just there.

And when you get there you do not want to leave. There is no grass over the hill somwhere you want to be. You have arrived.

Curious what styles of music, bands, basses and cabs the current crop of Streamliner 900 owners are involved with?

The reason I ask is that sometimes Tube amp lovers covet a certain style of music and sound where other music and players favor something else.

That is a big thing, to not have to twiddle around looking for a good sound. It is very simple with this head. The most complicated part is going through all the different nuances of the gain stages. I particularly like not having extra knobs or pre sets as they often just complicate things for me.

I play through a modified Jazz
into a TB153
I play classic rock, alternative rock in my current band
but I listen to modern Jam Bands such as Moe, Umphreys, Tea Leaf Green, Umelt etc.
I am also pretty fond of blues.
FWIW, I have never owned a tube head, many hybrids though.

Red that was my problem with the Mark Bass, I NEEDED the VLE BUT I like the flexibility of the LMIII & wonder if I would miss that in the Streamliner. I didn't like the VPE just like I don't like the enhance, contour on SWR, GK or Eden (They just boost lows & highs) VLE brought some warmth & I didn't expect that.

I dont see the Streamliner as flexible, which is okay as long as I love the tone as is. I can't see that as a plus to the Streamliner though
This is coming from a guy who loves a 50 knob Eden Navigator! I wouldn't call the LM Tube a tube amp & you certainly wouldn't compare it to the Aggie.

The best thing for you as this point would be to buy one and be done with it :)

I don't see the streamliner as any more or less flexible as the LMIII, they just sound different to begin with. You can tweak the sound of the streamliner just as much as you can the LM - actually more if you count in the potential to overdrive the tubes. The VLE is just a fancy treble roll off, which actually I always just did on my bass. And the SL has warmer chewier highs to begin with. Just my .02

Very helpful, I'll look into what VLE does, like I said the VPE is clearly boost lows & highs, big deal. If all VLE is is rolling off treble then I can mimic that like I can mimic VPE

Lets see, my current lineup of gear and styles of music.

I have two single coil Fender P Basses 51/53 reissues, a Tobias Basic V, a modern fretless G&L L-2500 five string, and a Hybrid/Carved Top Emanuel Wilfur 3/4 Upright Bass (last valued at $7,000.00).

I play any of these into either a Shuttle 9.0 or Streamliner 900 into either one (or two) Bergantino HT112ER cabs, or one SWR 2x10 Golight Cab.

I currently have the SWR Cab and Shuttle 9.0 at the Blues Band rehearsal studio and the Streamliner and Bergs in my studio.

I play everything from Blues to Jazz to Loud Hard Hitting Rock. When I'm playing Blues/Funk/Jazz I usually use one of my P Basses or my Upright with the occasional grab of my Tobias or G&L. Sometimes I'll just take one Bass and play only it. When I'm playing this stuff either amp is set as clean as possible.

When I'm playing Heavy Rock I most definitely play a Fender 4 string P Bass and I set my amp for some overdrive (no tweeter).

I can pretty much cover all the Basses.:D

I just wish all I was doing was playing music or working in music somehow. My gigging seems to be getting fewer and further between. Hopefully things will pick up soon.

The VLE is almost like a tone control on a passive Bass but just a smidgen different. In the mix, pretty much can't tell it from one. The VPF is Mid scoop.

My thing with the MarkBass amps I owned was, I never could quite get there tonally and I was always asking the amps for more power than they had.

If your playing into a 4 ohm load all the time, they will get the job done and really do sound good but just different animals than theese warmer rounder Genz amps.

Just found the answer, the LM has a mini-tube not a 12ax7a & can't be replaced except by a technician.

You guys are right, this isn't a tube amp. The VLE is just some fancy EQ... I know my Eden Nav has a tube but I wouldn't call it a tube sound & it has more tube than the LM. My Eden Nav could EASILY sound like the LM.

I currently play in a Rolling Stones tribute band and a blues power trio, and I also fill-in in an original guitar-based rock band and a top 40 pop covers band. I wouldn't hesitate to use my Streamliner in any band I play with now or in the future.

My cabs are an Epifani UL610 and a pair of SWR Goliath Jrs. Basses include a couple of Stingrays and a Musicman Big Al, a P bass with Lollars, a P bass with a Dark Star, an SG reissue, an Ampeg lucite reissue and a P/J with Dimarzios. I've got a custom made Fenderbird on the way.
