I had two more sets at church today and I like the highs and lows and still fighting to get my mids right. Not sure if I should be cutting or boosting to get what I need so, will be playing with it more. I think I would like this head alot more in a less crowded mix. We had keys, horns, two guitarists, full choir (no bagpipes-btw). It would at least be easier for me to get where I think I need to be. I think I would love tracking with this amp and may get a chance in the near future.
imho it depends on what you're trying to do in/with that mix. This amp and the P-bass have turned around my thinking on my sound with one of my bands (a Steely Dan tribute band). I traditionally have wanted something that cuts (like a Roscoe) with very good mid definition so I could hear the bass without having to crank it that high. I got the P-bass and had a bit of a revelation in that mix (keys, 2 horns, 2 guitars, 3 vocalists). No real cut, just wrapping around the mix. The S900 supports that approach really well. If I were using the Roscoe and trying to slice through, I think it would require some radical eq on the S900 to get what I used to do (eg with an MB Fusion).
And interestingly enough, last night in a sparse mix, I wasn't really feeling the P-bass as much, but the Rob Allen was killing. So part of it is (re)learning how all the moving parts relate to each other. But if one really wants/needs an aggressive or ultra hi-fi tone, there are probably better choices in an amp.
