Alright, for anyone that cares, I got to run my new (to me)
Lakeland Skyline DJ5 loaded with Fralins through the 900 and BNA Audio (Greenboy) Dually loaded with Faital PR400-15's. To be clear, this cab has 4 healthy ports in it.
I have pretty much been rehearsing with Fender P's and J's, switching back and forth depending on my mood. After hearing the DJ5 in the headphones, I will admit that I was concerned about the potential for too much edge and not enough fat round bottom. Slap was abolsutely terrifying, but fingerstyle seemed to be a bit too sterile, at least practicing at home.
Currently playing in a power trio 90% fingerstyle/10% pick playing Classic Rock, Blues, Southern Rock, and even some Country. Gank is my enemy.
I plugged in and was stunned at the sound. Huge fata$$ bottom! Every time I played G or lower my face just lit up. I had no desire to play the next note in the song because the one I was currently playing was PERFECT !
Mids were just punchy enough to be clearly heard. The highs were agressive and crisp and never sounded harsh.
Our guitar player and drummer both commented on tone at least three times throughout the evening. It was amazing.
In spite of coming home in awe, I awoke this morning bummed out as this equipment love triangle (Lakland DJ5/Stm-900/Super 215) has my Fenders sounding like crap and they sounded great just last week !
I do love my P's and J's dearly.
I have read a few threads where some of the Jazz bass guys said that they had a hard time finding their tone out of the 900. While I understand that I am running old school with the twin 15 loaded Dually, good god man, I got monster tone. Glorious, clear, warm, in your face tone.
I know that each and every one of us have our own dream tone. Just because there may be a few naysayers here doesn't necessarily mean that it won't work for you. I am not saything that we should ignore valuable advice here. I am saying that we all need to decide what works best for us by using our own ears.
I am going to go grab a handful of low C now and try not to pee my pants with glee.
