The 600 and 900 use identical preamps, the main difference is the power.

I understand what your saying, but I've been using the 900 paired with an Epifani UL112 on hundreds of duo gigs for a few years now. They sound great together, I just change to a bigger cab for band gigs and use the same head.

Me too. STL 900 into Berg HT112. No problem. Sounds great.

Likewise. I gigged my SL900 and a little 250-watt three-way single 10 cab for a while with no problems. I continue to use it (and a G-K MB800) with a single 150 watt Beta 10a for coffee house gigs.

But agedhorse is right to put his disclaimer out there- if you don't know what you're doing, it's easy to fry drivers with a powerful amp.

Based on what manufacturers experience in the warranty department, and what I've seen over the years as a repair tech, there are a LOT of musicians who don't know what they're doing.

I've just pulled the trigger on a Streamliner 600 and a Shuttle 1x12 to go with the Shuttle 1x12 I've already got. Lightweight and versatile..... that'll do me.

So, for the less informed, the obvious question is: Define careful, how do you suggest the 900 be run with a single 12 and a pair of 12's?

if you turn the volume up to a point where you hear a farting noise from your cab, turn it down. If you are playing witha higher volume settign then you have used before with that cab, listen carefully for farting noises.

I own a Shuttle 6.0 but since the Streamliner came out I've had GAS. I got the Streamliner 900 just the other day and it sounds like heaven through my G-B NeoX 212T. It was the right move for me! I've got a pair of Bag End S-15D's to try it with next.

Common thoughts but some cabinets and amps are designed to overload gracefully and may cause damage before a player might hear something bad, especially in a band situation.

IME, you do not want to be hitting the output peak led into a single 10 or 12 at 8 ohms. The 900 delivers about 600 watts at 8 ohms which at low frequencies will exceed the mechanical power handling. Keeping the output below the peak led is a good start.

Anything is possible but it's unlikely. Here's why...

The rated power is 900 watts RMS at 4 ohms, that's ~450 watts per driver or about 1.5x the continuous rating. Using the Streamliner 900 with a single 8 ohm driver would be ~600 watts RMS into 8 ohms or ~2x the continuous rating of the driver. With single driver 12" cabinets, there is generally a compromise in low end over a 2 x 12" cabinet so the common impulse is to turn the LF eq up putting more mechanical stress on the single driver being driven harder than it's 2 driver cabinet counterpoint.

I've read through these threads and like what I saw. I almost fell down my basement steps carrying my 69 SVT the other day. Kind of funny but I'm just not a burly young man any more. I should have my amp on Tuesday. I have an array of cabs to try it out on. First will be an ampeg sealed 410 4 ohms. I have two of these but generally only use one at practice. A boogie 215 ported and a boogie 210 with a tweeter in it ported. When I'm feeling burly again, I can try it with my old ampeg sealed square back 810. I currently play in two different Led Zeppelin tribute bands. One out of NYC travels a lot. I hope I can use it on the road in some big rooms. I may be searching for some cabs soon.

Much as I love my Streamliner, it's not getting any play since I got my G-K MB800.

A session with a raft of cabs and amps at a GTTG on Saturday convinced me that regardless of where I go with cabs in the future, I would probably be better off with something a little more modern-sounding.

Thinking ShuttleMax 12.0 or 12.2, so if anyone would like to do a trade, see my posting in the classified section.
