Genz Uber212

I just sent Larry at LeCover.com dimensions and pictures thid morning so he can get building. I am waiting on a price for padded.
Once he builds special for me (as he did on the neoX112 and 212) it will show on the website as a real model.

Does GB make covers for these or will I have to have one custom ordered?

Totaly right... I LOVE this box and it is way different than the NEOx212. I love it it is the cabinet for me. The voicing is much bigger and more 215 ish.
It is my cabinet of choice.

The specs don't tell the whole story regarding the voicing and the cabinet's resonant contribution to the sound. While the low end is similar, the character is a bit different in sound and feel. Certainly an obvious difference when playing them.

What is the differences between the cabs soundwise in your opinion? I have the NEOX212 but I am starting to get some GAS for that Über cab...:)

Hasbeen or Agedhorse,

Can you tell us what the crossover point is for the tweet in the Uber 212?

I play lots of distorted bass. one of the things i'd like to do is custom order one from you without a tweeter.

You mentioned that with the current driver parameters - you are happy with the high end extension. Would I be right in thinking that this allows you to set a higher crossover point?

And as to people saying the cab specs between the Uber and the Neox are similar.

they are not.

looks like there as about 13% more cab volume in the Uber. With the same drivers - that alone means a drastic difference in low end response.

I say the Uber 212 is more of a perfect balance between a 410 and a 115. Calling it old school is about right, but saying this box is like a 215 is selling it short. I've never seen a fast and punchy 215.

And for your viewing pleasure:

From memory (I'm at NAMM w/out any paperwork) the crossover frequency is a little higher and the response at the crossover frequency (of the horn) is dipped a little for smoothness.

You can always turn the tweeter down/off.

Is this one of those tweeters that running it too high or too low can cause it damage, or will it be fine wherever I set it? I know some tweeters explode when they're turned off for an extended period of time.

I'd much rather not have the tweeter in the signal chain at all.

So if removed completely what's the useable extension? the high side -6db?

Or the crossover point would simply be enough.

Don't worry about turning the tweeter all the way down. There's no danger of anything "exploding"... in fact I don't know where this sort of thing even comes from. Urban myth?

I repeat, on a properly sized and designed crossover, there is NO problem turning the tweeter all the way down. Our crossovers are properly designed and sized, and warrantied too.

I had always heard that the passive attenuation of the tweeter attenuater in some cabs could get really hot if the tweeter was fully off while pushing the cab to capacity, and that could cause damage. Not necessarily and explosion, but excessive heat damage. I don't know how true it is.

Not true at all IF properly designed.

There was a gold faced company that told you not to turn theirs off because it would burn up.
