140-165lbs for the 810 SVT cabs

The pro series 810's were 210lbs though if I remember right.

Mine were the sealed 810E's, I think. They were sealed, no ports. They were about 210 each and the SVT 2 pro was about 75 or so. That was the gym!

Lighter cabs that pair well with the Streamliner? Uber series, AG tri112L, Schroeder 1210 or 1212, or the avatar's? Any Insight would be greatly appreciated!

Just picked up an STM 900...downsizing in weight and size from my SVT2Pro. Is there 1 perfect cab that pairs well with this head? I currently have it in a GS112 and I'm not too thrilled. UB1288 perhaps? (finger groove style mostly with some fusion and folk mixed in, primarily fretless).

There are a load of 210 cabs you might ant to try, HS210, AE210, maybe a VL210, a pair of VL110 cab are awesome, you might want to try an Epifani UL310. This amp will produce a lot of bottom with even a single small cab.

HD112? Do tell...

Yep....Jim Bergantino is coming out with a new line of cabs which should be available for delivery sometime around the end of this month. One of them is the HD112. Based on what I have read, it has the same woofer as the HT112ER, but has a different tweeter. I also noticed that the cab dimensions are *slightly* different.

Since this thread is about the Genz STM amps, I don't want to derail the thread. So I will just refer any folks interested in the new Berg cabs to this thread:

Great suggestions! Thanks! I like the idea of the VL210's and have heard good things in the past....just not sure if I can find them anymore. The AE's are out as well now. The HD's are supposed to be out soon as well...just have to wait...

I have a buzzing...like a ground issue with the STM 900. I've never had a buzzing with either bass before (Lakland 5 Deluxe with barts, Warwick Thumb 6 fretless). Is the gain stage uber sensitive? Or did something happen to my basses in shipping during my cross country move?

Is the gain button in? Or out?

I find the Streamliner to be astonishingly quiet with my basses, but they're both active, and very well-shielded.

Anyway, your problem could be any of the above.

Tubes can go bad, and the SL has a VERY wide gain range, both to accommodate different basses, and allow for overdrive. Could be a bad cable. Could be the bass(es).

I'd start by checking gain settings- do your knob positions match typical reports on this thread? If you have the Master low, and the input cranked, it could amplify ground noise.

Next, I'd try eliminating components- use a known good cable, another bass, another amp...

Other things to consider would be bad house wiring, damaged power cord, or perhaps a loose or broken ground wire or poor shielding on your basses.

Played another outdoor gig with the 900/AE210/112 and, again, it performed in a manner consistent with my desire of a bass amplification system.

I think I'm good for a while with this setup. I bought a jazz bass last year because it was pretty but I wasn't sure I liked the sound. This rig tames the "gank factor".

I've never played a tube amp until I just purchased a fender PA135, which I will probably never gig. So I can't say it's the "toobiness" that a like about the amp. I just love the way it sounds. It's got this drippy feel to it, but I wouldn't call it old school. To me it's very clean and distinct, with plenty of zing if you want it.

Yes, the bass needs to be dialed back a bit. And the mids boosted a touch. But when we played "no woman, no cry" on a request, it was pretty cool to put the bass knob a noon.

My STM 900 had a loud hum twice when I turned it on. The first time I removed the tubes from their sockets and re-seated them, the hum vanished. The second time I just cycled the power on and off and the hum went away. Just my guess, a bad tube? Haven’t had any more issues in months and a lot of hours on the amp.

It does it with both the gain in and out. Initially when I first got it it was whisper quiet, as it should be. Then after a few sessions it picked up a little buzz, kind of like a ground buzz...hold your hand on the strings, no noise, take them off, buzz, sizzle, crackle. It wasn't a standard tube microphony issue where they just start whistling whether the master volume is up or not...but it wasn't there initially and seems to get sizzlier (if that's a word) the longer the amp runs. My 12 year old (trumpet player) walks by and says, "is it supposed to buzz like that?"
The only thing that I can do to curtail it is to turn the treble all the way off on the bass preamp (and it doesn't matter between the Warwick and the Lakland) and it goes away...but of course then with no highs.
I just moved here and don't know any of the local shops...yet...but I called a couple and I'm going to bring in the head and the Warwick into one here in Raleigh at lunch and try the head with other basses and my Warwick in other amps. That should lay to rest where the issue is...head or bass. Then I found another little boutique guitar shop that sells tubes (TADs), which I will try if it points to the head. I'd prefer NOS, but I just need to solve the mystery quickly.
I will keep you all posted as to the results.

Quick side note though...I packed the head in the little Streamliner bag with power, speaker and instrument cable and carried it and my gig bag out to the car. After lugging SVTs most of my life that was a very satisfying little moment!

The symptoms you describe indicate that the problem may not be with your amp but with the bass pickups or preamp (if active). Have you changed the battery (if active) or tried with a new cable & bass? Is it possible that your bass is picking up noise from lighting or some noisy electrical device?

If turning the treble down on the bass reduced the noise, this indicates that the noise in entering before the bass's eq, and if touching the strings reduces the noise, it may also be that the bonding wire between the input jack's ground and the bridge is either loose or broken.
