GenzBenz Streamliner Pt 8...

I did a search but could only come up with 1 hit. Does anybody use a Streamliner with a Jazz into a Neox 212T ? Thinking about a 600. Not really looking for a traditional Blues bass, " pillow ' sound with the Blues band I'm in, but, more of a " stick out but fit in " type of tone. Most of the material is like The Fabulous Thunderbirds type of stuff, with the occaisional Soul and Roots Rock thrown in.

I think a Streamliner could do that for you if you take your time with it.. The tone control are somewhat interactive.. I say somewhat...
But if you want a little less gooey type of a tone, a nice contender would be the Shuttle max 9.2 which gives you a Tube pre as well as a FET pre and 900 watts... Its very loud! with a good tone with all controls set at 12 oclock for starters...

I used my STL 600 through a 410 4ohm cab in a fairly loud practice the other night. I noticed the peak light flashing quite a bit. My settings were gain button engaged, gain & vol both at 1:00, Bass 11:00 mid 2:00 2.5k, treble 11:00, and master 11:00. I am wondering why the peak light would be flashing? I am surely not pushing it that hard at those settings. anyone have any answers?

I used my Skyline JoBo 5 w/DR Neons with my GB Neox 212T and STM-900 the other nite at a blues jam. The Jazz bass has been sitting parked alot cuz I use my P5 or 55-02D for most my gigs with a few bands.

Since I don't use this bass much, mighta been that but I could not dial in a very good/clear tone at that blues jam. I also used this bass awhile back with STM-900 and TB153 cab in a blues/classic rock band. Mighta been that boomy room but I could not get a great tone that nite either.

Some of my other rigs, UL410's with LMII or F1 seem to work great with my JoBo 5er. I suppose if I spent some time at home dialing it in I might could find a useable tone. My P5 and couple active 5ers do it for me right now, so I use those more. I'd like to use the Jazz bass more, so now let me know if YOU can find a good tone thru that setup. ;) Thanks

I've had no problem getting a great sound with my Carvin SB5000 (70's style active jazz), STL 900, and NeoX212t.

I gig mostly with my Uber410, but for a blues/R&B/oldschool funk sound I thought the above combination was great. The Carvin is a very bright and defined instrument, so that might be part of it. But, I usually play 100% on the neck pickup and the fat yet defined tone was very satisfying.

Mine does that as well from time to time. Often I never notice it till later in the night, though I never hear anything being pushed to any bad distortion. IIRC many posts ago it was said that this light was showing that the 3dpm was kicking in and not to be overly concerned about it like you would on say a LMIII or other solid state amp. I just make sure it is not lighting up too much, like with every note; I tend to see it flash only with harder low notes and that is about it. Its all good. :D

Thanks Gab124, I was digging in pretty good and only noticed it when playing on the E string maybe a little on the A string. I just thought I would have to turn up the master quite a bit more before the 3DPM would kick in. It didn't sound bad at all it actually sounded very good. It was the first time I used it in a rock/metal setting it sat in the mix very well.

Yeah, I think the 3DPM is a bit mysterious as to how and when it kicks in. Like you though, I have not heard anything that sounded bad when I see the light coming on like I do on some other amps. I notice it most when I am really hitting the power section hard from the preamp, ie when pre volume is a bit too high. When I see the light come on if I backdown on the pre volume and kick up the master it flashes less and I still get the same volume. As well, the master on this amp can go way higher before seeing problems or petering out like other amps I have had.

If you go back to the orignal Shuttle 9.0 thread and the original Streamliner thread you will see a good bit of info on PHAT (Shuttle and Streamliner) and 3DPM (Streamliner).

IIRC the 3DPM is a circuit design to add enery where and when energy is needed.

But this is straight from the site.

3DPM

Along with our preamp design that rivals that of many classic tube amplifiers, the STREAMLINER™ 900 also features our proprietary 3 Dimensional Power Management analog technology. Our 3DPM™ adds heft and girth to each individual note, while enhancing the amplifiers responsiveness and headroom. It provides the dynamic and 3 dimensional tone and feel of an all tube power amp design.

PHAT

The powerhouse behind the Streamliner™ 900 is a Class D amplifier and SMPS module, enhanced with our Patent Pending P.H.A.T. (Proprietary Heat Abatement Technology) topology. This delivers robust and reliable, high output performance in a tremendously compact and convenient package.

@ErnieD
See what this setting does for you....
And checkout this thread:
Genz Streamliner 600/900 tone control primer - Page 6 - TalkBass Forums

I only read the first couple posts of that thread when it was new and have not looked at it again. I see its quite a few more pages now and will go back and check it out soon.

As for that pic, I've set my amp like that before, only difference was I had my treble knob @ 1:00, Master @ 1:00-2:00. Would that have made much difference? Thanks just the same, will try your settings when I use my Jazz bass this Wed nite at blues jam agian.

Thanks guys for the info. The next time I play with those guys i'll back down the pre vol a bit and bump up the master some. By the way they couldn't believe the power & tone that this little amp has and I can hardly believe it myself.

I owned the DB750 and now own the ST900. Although I never owned them at the same time, there are a lot of similarities but I am overall quite a bit happier with the Streamliner.

The eq on the DB was always kind of feeble, so it was hard to get a grindy fat midrange out of it. Although the flat tone was more defined and usable than the ST's, when I crank the midrange and lower the bass I get a tone I like more out of the ST. And the fat juicy quality of the sound is more pronounced on the ST.

There was a quality about the DB750 that felt like each note had limitless power behind it. I miss that a bit, but to tell the truth that doesn't really translate too much in a live mix and may even have made things too heavy-sounding especially on hollow stages.

Coupled with the weight issue and the fact that the ST is less than half the cost, it was a no-brainer to me.

Wow, and to think I wanted a DB 750.... The Streamliner is super sweet and the weight is unbelievable for the output for sure!
