GenzBenz Streamliner Pt 8...

The 900 works very well with my pair of 1288 Quad cabs....

I can confirm that the Streamliner works well with all of these cabinets - the Neox212 has punchy mid-range which works really well - in the shop I have the 128 and 15 stack which just kills with the STM900 - huge.

I feel that any well balanced/mid forward cabinet works really well, low emphasised cabinets get bloomy and too fat.

I sell Vanderkley cabinets which are almost the perfect match having that tight mid range like the AE410 and amazing high end definition - the Vanderkley 112 or 212 + Streamllner is the most popular combination in my shop!

I can't wait for the New Bergys come in - I think the HD210/410 will be hard to beat!

My band hosted the blues jam at a local premier, Houston blues venue last nite. I got a chance to sit in back of room and listen to 3-4 very good bassist' sit in on my rig. This nite was the 4 ohm,TB153 w/ STM-900, P5. Two of them used my '08 Am St P5 w/flats (maple board).

The sound on the small stage was big n thick. When I broke to have others sit in, I rolled the Freq knob over to 2.5K, I used this and 600 for my set but I wanted others to not feel they were sending mud out to the room and wanted to allow for others' playing styles. Other knobs Gain/Vol were about 11:00-noon, bass 10:00, mids @ 3:00, treble @ 11:00-noon. I don't recall seeing many others dial those knobs while they played. 'Cept for one dude I was told plays reggae, seemed he dialed the bass knob up abit.

TBer '5stringblues' bassist, very good bassist in his own right, really showed me what this rig can do. The bass+rig just sounded awesome throughout the club, really huge bass tone. He thumbed some fat, staccato notes, slapped some nice stuff making the tubes grind abit and just overall nice fingerstyle.

I also use the STM-900 with a single Neox 212T at a nearby tavern where another band hosts a blues/variety jam. And I'm going to use my two TC-E RS210 cabs tomorrow nite at a club gig, may use a active 5er for that gig. I find the P5 really works for me with the TB153 for the two blues/classic rock bands.

I usually use a 55-02 or modded MTD KZ5 with the 212T or the RS210 cabs in a third band, new country/country classics. I sometimes take and setup my F1 or LMII at my gigs but by 2nd-3rd sets I'm busting out the 900 to finish the nite.

I'm trying to use all my amps/cabs/basses during this busy couple months to see what I might be able to set loose rather than it just sitting unused. A few things are keepers; some may be on the choppin block soon. But as I tell my wife, I really do get alot of use out of most of all this variety of gear. :bassist: She still aint buying it. :hmm:

I can testify to good pairing of a SL900 and LDS 12/6 and 15/6 cabs. My Fender Aerodyne Jazz bass with P pup on full and J pup off sounds like liquid butter slathered over a hot roll, washed down with hot gravy and steamy mashed potatoes. And that's just the first bite!

I could not have described the Streamliner's tone better myself.

Gravy baby!:hyper:

Would be interested in your thoughts about the Streamliner paired with the Neox 212T. To me, this cab is already a little bottom heavy; I find myself dialing back the bass on every amp I use with it. Sounds good at home, then I get to the gig and I'm cutting the bass like crazy. I can't imagine how the Streamliner would sound with it !

weren't you using a J bass with your setup? I still find it hard to dial in my JoBo 5er with the 900 and any of my cabs. So if your asking about using a J bass with your rig...can't help you and I could use some help too. :smug: I pretty much only use my J bass with my Markbass heads now, LMII/F1.

Another TBer suggested some settings to use on the 900 with my J bass. I tried those with the 212T cab at that tavern jam last week. Just couldn't get there, so I went back to my regular P5 settings and it was just OK.

I do find that I can dial the bass knob anywhere from 8:00 up to around 1:00 on the 900 when I use my P5 with either TB153 or Neox 212T and it works for me. Of course this may not be a tone others like. I also like the easy schlep and minimal stage-space needed with the Neox 212T for smaller clubs and I do dial down the bass knob and keep the 2.5K on for that.

I get no PA support and I kinda push the lows and volumes with this particular band due to a loud giturd who loves to scoop his tone and a heavy left-handed keysplayer. I usually slide up the neck to play the mids more when they startup that trash. But I've asked them and they do layoff enough to let me cut thru most of the nite.

Again, I seem to get my best pairing with my P5 and the ST-900. Others use their J bass' with great results. Good luck buddy. :bassist:

Yeah, I was using a J bass with that cab, but I'll soon be getting a P bass. I still would like to get a cut through tone, though, not really looking for that fat pillow sound. Some guys are swapping out the tubes in the Streamliner to knock the huge " cloudy " ( their term, not mine ) low end down a little. It's an interesting thread, check it out. http://www.talkbass.com/forum/f15/genz-benz-streamliner-tube-rolling-796088/

Sounds like you may be barking up the wrong tree. If your not looking for massive low end the Streamliner would not be the choice.

Red Planet: "Sounds like you may be barking up the wrong tree. If your not looking for massive low end the Streamliner would not be the choice."

I don't really get a big pillow when I use this rig, more a tight-low-end on lower strings but yeah even the other 3 strings are not crystal clear but for the blues I play not really looking for that. I like the thick-thump I'm now getting. Sorry I'm no good at describing with more tech-terms. :rollno:

And Yes, I have been following that tube rolling thread abit. A couple years ago, I bought some tubes from a TBer I was gonna try in my Neopak head. IIRC, I have a Mullard, Sylvania, Tungsol?, couple others,or something like that. I know they're of the 12AX7 variety for preamp-use. I've not tried any in this 900 head yet. Just no time yet, but I'll try em out soon.

Oh by the way, I used my Neopak with my 212T cab recently, just to knock the dust off that head. To me, it sounds like the 900 head but I was able to control the massive lows more readily with the Neopak; and that was with my JoBo 5.

I think I'll use the Neopak again next week at the jam to see if I can get that again. And only at about 350 watts @ 4 ohms, it still filled that two room tavern very nicely. Sorry if I'm not helping with your particular issue but like many here, I find that I'm still in discovery mode with the STM-900 as I go along.

I use the 600 with a GB neox212t with a p-bass/flats and a passive jazz with rounds and have no problem cutting through a blues mix with 2 guitars drums etc.

Gain and volume on 12:00, bass at 11:00, 600k with the mids boosted to 1:30 and treble at 2:00.
The tone and volume pots wide open on my P bass.
I boost the bass control a bit on the 600 when I use my jazz.. Thats it works for me :)

just curious, where do you keep your V/V/T knobs on your Jazz set? That's something I find myself fiddling with alot when I use my J bass. I do use very similar knob settings on the GB head, so more wondering about your J bass settings.

I now have those silly Neon DR strings but I'm gonna reinstall my Sadowsky flats back on it next week or so. Though the orange Neons may go over well tonite at the Halloween party gig. Hope they have a blacklite on nearby, haha.

The orange Neon's sound fun, Enjoy the gig :)

I like my jazz bass to sound different to my P, so normally tone is rolled half way back, Bridge volume is full and neck pup slightly rolled back. Oh yeah it's a 4 string.

I have rounds on it now, but flats will be going back on it soon.

yep that's some settings I have used as well. I mostly keep the VV's matched at about 7:00-8:00 ( looking down at the knobs). The tone knob is what I find myself rolling on-off alot. It mostly stays at about 1/4 - 1/2 on.

I used this bass alot when I gigged my Markbass heads and UL410 cab(s). Still own the UL's but they don't play well at all with my 900 head + P bass. Though this past summer, I tried both of those 8 ohm, UL410's w/STM-900 and 55-02D bass for a new country gig. It was pretty damn awesome sounding and that day the 900 went quite well with the UL cabs.

As you might see here, I like to mix n match alot of my gear (TB ruined me like that  ) but I really enjoy trying all my gear with these different bands. But at some point I do like to narrow down the bass+rig matches so there are no (bad) surprises at my gigs. Its a work in progress for me but its been fun. :bassist:

not sure its cool to say exacts but I got my 900 for under $700, free ship way back this past spring. That low price was main reason why I decided to try it out sight unseen/heard.....so glad I did. Best bargain I've gotten this year. Def keep your eyes on Ebay for some good deals.

Though I can say that I'd prefer to try it- then buy it at local store when I'm buying new amp heads. Always check online store' seller status and the like. Good return policies almost a must when buying online.
